Rechargable alternate to CR123A 3v Lithium

Here's a site describing how to make your own rechargeable "123" by
assembling two 1/5 A NiMH batteries:

The information is flashlight-oriented, but I'm sure the batteries could
be used for receivers or cameras, too, if they can handle the lower
voltage (2.4v vs. 3.0v).

If cost of CR123s is an issue, you can often find them online for under
$2 a piece. Try http://www.batterystation.com, for example. I've only
dealt with the once, but I was very satisfied.
