Then, perhaps you should have mentioned it in your post. Are you
encouraging others to join you in an illegal activity?

Illegal!!??
I too have a 9C and have used a friends Spectra module in the radio. I also
know that if I am involved in some type of "incident" the AMA may not choose
to cover me so I don't use the module anymore. However I don't understand
why you would call this illegal. Unsupported and not recomended (by AMA)
yes, but illegal?

Probably referring to the fact that the FCC doesn't like someone
making modifications to a transmitter unless they are properly
licensed to do so..

Makes the AMA sound more like the "Big Brother" many imagine them to be
(including themselves).
This has been discussed on many forums and the only things that can really
be agreed on is:
The manufacturers do not recommend it but why would they? Makes sense that
they would want you to use their modules and not someone else's. Plus to
recommend a another module, as manufacturers they would have to cough up for
the testing/certification of that particular configuration. And be able to
provide documentation supporting their conclusions. Cheaper to just say
"no"!
The AMA does not approve of it. Probably because of the lack of testing and
endorsement by the manufacturers more than anything else.
But is it OK according to FCC rules? That can generate a lot of opinions.

This combination has not been certificated for use by the FCC. To be
legal, that is required. I took your position for a long time. Steve
Kaluf's position was supported by the AMA legal staff, and I have been
convinced that certification is possible only if both Hitec and Futaba
agree to jointly do it. They haven't, and they won't, as is evidenced
by the upcoming release of a Futaba module for the 9C.
