I have recently just bought my first Comp Radio (Futaba FF6) and was think
of using airbrakes on my 3 channel middle phase. Now I know I need to
install 2 servo's on the wing, but i) I don't really have a clue what
airbrakes do (are they like flaps but in the other direction) and ii) how
should I set up the radio, I mean if both ailerons go up, how many degrees
should they go up?

TIA

Airbrakes can be mounted below the stab line on the fuselage, or on the
trailing edge of the wing.  What you seem to have described are spoilerons.
Try 15 degrees, but the initial deployment test should be on the ground and
the secondary one at LOTS of altitude.

If you watched WB and Bugs Bunnny cartoons, then you would know
airbrakes stop the plane before it hits the ground.........soo sorry
could not resist that one.      :-)

        Airbrakes bleed off speed.

On airliners and bizjets the airbrakes rise about 70 degrees.
They're located on the top of the inboard part of the wing, more than
halfway back, and cover about 1/5 of the span. And boy, are they
effective; sticking them up immediately after landing (before the
reverse thrust and wheelbrakes come on) will throw you against the
harness pretty good.

Don't do it. It's overkill on a model, which slows down nicely without
help, unlike jets.

My Spitfire has split flaps wich deploy 89 degrees like the original.
such flaps are nice brakes, and slow down landing speed quite substantially.
I need to use them to land the plane on small model airstrips when there is
no headwind.
