Been modeling since '49 - which makes me an Old Fart!
Herb Winston - 02 Jul 2004 12:33 GMT Hi Jerry,
I built my first model 1945 at age 8, although it was a Guillow solid balsa kit of a P47, kitted way back then as part of a method of training aircraft spotters for "Friend or foe" during World War II.
Guess that makes me a Really, really Old Fart.

I remember Galloping Ghost, exhaust wipers instead of mufflers, EK Logitrol, Heathkit, Kraft Signature Series radios, the famous Carl Goldberg Ranger trainer and the first electric starter to show up at a local club.
I think you got me beat, but not by so much.

At my age, SWMBO keeps me from even thinking about those things.

Yup, I recall all of them, and then some. But hey, I'm too shaky to even think of getting into a pi**ing contest w'ya.

Oddly enough because of the relationship geographically between the house and the school. My son can indeed walk up hill BOTH ways! The snow was all gone by the end of January and not many people are strong enough to carry his brother...other than that yep he's got you beat it gets -35F up here. 8^) Oh and while I didn't fly some of the stuff I still recall the old timers commenting on how much better the Kraft radios were than using Galloping Ghost systems...

In the late '70s, I had to use a worn out 1971 Honda CB100 motorcycle (my only ride) to transport my stuff to the field.
My first airplane was a Top Flite R/C Schoolboy with a .020 Pee Wee running a Top Flite nylon 5-1/4X3 prop, single channel Ace Pulse Commander with Baby Twin actuator on 26.995 MHz. Second was Top Flite Roaring 20.
I would have gotten a Heathkit 5-channel kit, but at the time it was too pricey at $209, hence the Ace.

I sure do remember those Kix box cutouts. The biggest prob that I had was trying to convince mom to buy it, because she knew I hated the taste of Kix. Fortunately both my younger sibs did like it. Then I had to plead with them to hurry up & eat the darn stuff so that I could butcher the box.
