I was in my LHS today- needed help with my flaps and a new radio..I
asked what would be a good engine for my funtana 90 he suggested
theYS110 4 cycle.has anyone ever used the one before?  he also
mentioned that  it's the  standard ... out performing saito and OS.. I
was just looking for a few other opinons..
 thanks again gig

Saito is hard to beat.

I have a YS110 mounted on a Stinger 60. It provides more power than OS
or Saito engines in the same size. You pay a price though. It requires
special fuel and it vibrates more. I have mine mounted on an engine
mount that uses rubber grommets for vibration isolation. The concept
works but you have to shell out more for the engine mount.

Hello all ,
thanks for replying....  this is info that i wanted t hear...  most
folk seem to like saito  some have never even heard of YS.. most dont
recomend OS(i like them because  all i have are OS 2 strokes  never
had a problem)  but we all know that 4 strokes are an different
animal...
Different mount?  I know you said that there is more vibration  will i
have to modify  the plane to get it in there?  I was told that saitos
required some kind of mods  to get it into the plane  I don't want to
deal with that if ican help it.  i'm already a little nervous about
this"special"mount thing  for the YS....I know it's more$$, but i got
into it knowing that this was not going to be a simple cheap  install
like doing a .46
 thanks for the tips....

I put Saito and OS in the same class. I don't have my Saito anymore but
I still have my OS 91 Surpass II pump engine and in 4 years that I have
had it, I have never had any problems. In my opinion, Saitos are a bit
finickier to get going but afterwards they are just as good. Relative
to an OS engine a Saito engine tends to be lighter and a bit more
powerful. OS has increased its prices so from a price to performance
ratio viewpoint, Saito would be the winner. You can't argue with its
cooler looks either but this applies only when the plane is on the
ground.

YS engines are supercharged and, consequently, they're significantly
more powerful. So if pure performance is the metric then YS would be
it.
Four-strokes vibrate more than two-strokes and in the world of
4-strokes YS engines take the number one spot. A couple of guys that I
know hard mount their YS engines. Their airframes vibrate for sure but
they've never had any problems. Stinger 60 airframe incorporates a lot
of ABS plastic so I had to use a soft mount to reduce airframe
vibration.  I'm using a Gator soft mount and at around $40 it is not
cheap but it is a lot cheaper than the $160 Hyde softmounts. Attaching
a "soft" engine mount to the firewall is no different than attaching a
regular engine mount. In some designs like the Gator mount, rubber
isolators are used in between the mount and the firewall. In other
versions such as Dave Browns, rubber isolators are used between the
engine and the mount. In all I'd say with a YS engine you may need a
soft mount.

Hi Matt,
thanks for the replies..you have been a great help.I for the first
time yesterday, saw some one at my club breaking in a new engin.. (4
stroke)ime as i have heard about this process  i actually saw it... it
was pretty interesting  the board that the guy had    screwed down to
the table  ,made the entire table vibrate!  The engine was a "max" or
something like that  but i was able to see how much  fuel  (thru the
tank) that is really used  these bigger engines  really suck up the
fuel!
Getting back to the  YS...  I think i will go for it  i will also look
for the  vibration kit  or mount..  to go with it...
 thanks for the reply.

I think Central Hobbies nowadays sells the Gator engine mount
(60-size). It does the job but you have to drill four holes to attach
the engine to the aluminum mount. It is not a big deal but it means
extra work. There are other alternatives so you may want to do some
research.
A 4-stroke engine of this size is recommended to run at about 9000-9500
rpm. I'm using a Graupner 15x8 propeller and with my Stinger 60 I get
about 2 inches of ground clearance. Hopefully your landing gear will be
tall enough for a 15-inch or an even longer span propeller.
Finally given the vibration issue of YS engines, you have to tighten
the muffler nut quite good. I have come across many folks who have lost
their YS engine mufflers in mid flight. What has worked for me (at
least so far) is that I'm using an internal tooth lock washer in
between the muffler nut and the muffler itself and I'm using Yamaha
bond on the threads.

Having typed the reply I checked Central's website. The Gator mount
that they sell is too large. You need the smaller one and that one is
available through GatorRC (www.gatorrc.com). Look for Soft N Safe
Adjustable Mount.

arf'ing  i will post a pic of my new funtana and YS engine!
thanks.
