Spread Spectrum for General RC Use (DX7)

The pattern list reported that there is now a
Spektrum DX7 on sale for general RC use:

http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SPM2710

I am not affiliated with anybody who is making a
profit on this item and receive no compensation for
mentioning it in this group (drat!).

I'm just happy that spread spectrum solutions are
being worked out.

I hate to think of how much it will cost to move
all my planes over to a new system.  I want to
head in that direction eventually, but I imagine
that I'll be locked into one brand for a long
time to come.  I doubt that there will be generic
receivers for SpSp transmitters.  (SP2?  I hate
SS as an acronym!)

My JR 8103 is falling apart.  The innards work
OK, but I've damaged the case.  I'd love to get
into the world of digital trims, too.

Decisions, decisions ...

If you were sport flying, I could see moving over to spread spectrum soon.
But since you are a performance oriented flyer, I don't think I would make
the jump until I learned a few things. Who knows, maybe you know them
already?

I'm interested in the update or polling rate of the primary control surface
pulses. Much more bandwidth will be required just to maintain our current
polling rate when going to spread spectrum. Which is why you'll never see SS
in the 72 MHz, unless the FCC lets us hop from one channel to another, which
isn't likely.

I bought one of the Spektrum SS Park Flyer radios a while back. Nice, but
I'm not convinced that the throughput is as fast as current non SS rigs. I'm
not sure either way, mind you, but something doesn't feel the same as it
should.

I could be mistaken. Have been many times before.

Hi Ed,
Go here http://tinyurl.com/y4sqen and scroll down to the Mike McConville

Sounds like it is a better TX than I am a pilot.  :o)

Hi Martin,
Just read about it on the Flying Giants Web site http://tinyurl.com/u84k2.
Fantastic news! If the DSM2 technology is patentable I wonder how the other
radio manufacturers will react?  Anyone interested in a slightly used 9303?
;-)

Yep.

You let me know when you're ready to make the leap.

The 9303 will keep me happy for a couple more
years, I figure, while you bleeding-edge people
test-fly the 2.4 GHz stuff for me.  :o)

I just bought a new 9303 a few months ago. Like you, it will make me happy
for a while too.

I still have an 8103 that hasn't been flown much...

Man, you rich kids rub it in.  An 8103 is the classiest rig in my
shop.  Now my old Futaba Super 7 is anchoring the cobwebs.

OK.  Keep me in mind if you decide to sell it.

That would scratch one itch.  My 8103 was the
last with the slider trims.  I have done
ridiculous damage to the case, too.  :o(

Ed--I've just purchased a used 9303 with two receivers.

I'm all set for the next few years, if all goes well.

I'll try not to drop-kick the new TX the way I did
my 8103.  :o(
