I would think that it would qualify as breech of contract, and be ample reason
for you to get out of your contract with them.
But then there is probably fine print in the contract allowing them to make
changes in your service, or some reason why they are able to drop that service.
I wonder if sometime this same cancellation notice that has been posted five
thousand times will stop appearing in new posts. I could hope.

For most, if not all ISP's, usenet access is considered a non supported,
non guaranteed, complimentary service.

I think not. I'm not an AT&T customer, but I heard
that folks asking this question on the AT&T newsgroups
were told "No."

Thanks for the info Marty.
My local paper is doing a similar thing with the weekly television schedule
on the same date. You have to make a special effort to continue getting it.
It is clear that the next step is to charge extra to add it back into the
already paid for subscription that included it. On April 1 they reduced the
physical size of the paper 20% claiming the savings in newsprint expense
would be passed on to the consumer.
This appears to be yet another grab at our pocket books by companies trying
to hide their price increases. They learned this trick from the government.
Break it down into little peices and then raise the price of the descrete
peice a little until you get the cash flow up to what you wanted in the
first place. Wait until you look at your next tax bill. :(

Probably true of the newspaper.
I imagine that AT&T won't be going back into the Usenet business
at any price. Defending against child pornography charges is
expensive. People love to sue organizations with deep pockets.

No can do. Whatever tax obligations we have are met by
the house treasurer. I'll take your word for it. :o)
