G'day,
Damn.....
Really wanted a silver city comet kit,
Been trying for 3 years to get one and when I went to Hurstville this
year I didn't see his stand :( :(, Every previous time he had been sold
out :( :(
Anyone want to sell one (For a reasonable price)?
Thanks anyway 2cm and all the others that gave addresses etc.

He used to make three each year for Liverpool. He also did the same
with the 400 class and 500 class trailers but they are also on the
outer now. Its a shame as I too would have liked to have gotten a Comet
Set my self. It would be good if any mob got a hold of the castings or
made a kit themselves.

Hi Tim
I wouldn't be too disheartened.
I had a kit which I asked a friend to build for me, and it was so brittle it
was in bits within a few minutes of starting.
Only bought it at Liverpool about four years ago. Oh Well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I almost think that the Comet is a model worth doing in brass. We have not
had a decent brass model of any Australian prototype come out for a while
now and the focus has been squarely on mass-produced plastic models (no
offence to Austrains, Eureka, etc. since their models are top-class!).
I don't think the Comet would work as a plastic model, but as a brass model
it's almost an ideal 'fit'. I wonder if it's worth approaching Berg's
Hobbies and talking to Peter Berg about it? They might already have
something in mind but then again they might not.
Alternatively, see if you can track down David Anderson (aka Mansfield
Hobbies) and suggest it to him.
Regards,
Craig.

Now I raised the same question several months ago with some of the guys
associated with Trainorama and the biggest problem with doing a Comet
set as a large scale production run is whic one do you do.
If you do it in its final form you are limited to those who
prototypically model the West from Orange to Broken Hill.
If you do the as delivered version which is vastly different again your
limited.
You also have the various paint schemes to consider. As well as the
umteen hundred variations and modifications to trailer cars which were
carried out over the years.
So it just turns into a nightmare to do as a large scale production run
that is guaranteed to sell.
All that said. I'd buy one (or may be two) no matter what form they
came out in. Especially the old Indian Red and Chrome Yellow scheme.

Does he still have the masters? If he does but doesn't want to make any
more, perhaps Hanovale might be interested?
