Lambing Flat - 17 May 2004 13:21 GMT
G'day all,

Austrains, premier manufacturer of Australian rtr HO locomotives, has
just updated.

Austrains is at: http://homepage.idx.com.au/austrain/

Lots of news.

New liveries for the C class, Silverton and National Rail, due in late 2004

4th run of the NRs, including "The Ghan" livery variant are due anyday.

Photos of unpainted test shots of the 2nd series X class, painted
samples should be here in a month or so.....

See the May newsletter for the confirmation of the worst kept Austrains
secret....... its official, no NSWR 49 class, the next loco after the
CLP will be the VR T class!

Damn those Mexicans.....they've been having a good run lately ;-)

Will the 49 be done after the T then? I hope so as my branch line needs more
locos!

You will need to fill me in, as my copy has not arrived.

Apart from T class on delivery to VR, these units have no place on my
layout.  49 class could have had a place.

Not much more info than that already posted - apparently more in the next
AMRM (August).

I am sure an AD60 will have a place on your layout. Start saving. Definitely
more exciting
than any of the boxes on wheels being proposed for production. I wonder what
impact it will have on the price of brass AD60's?

VR T class sounds like a very good choice.

-There are four very distinct body shapes -1st, 2nd, third series T
and P class
-There are 2 sub-classes with slight variations, - H class and T413
(second hand loco in VR service with dynamic brake blisters)
-Locos were built in NSW but ran/still run in NSW, VIC and SA (ANR CK
class)
-Many diffrent colours (VR V/Line VLP, FV, FA and ANR, and maybe also
ASR)
-Operated on three different gauges.
-Pulled all sorts of trains on main lines, branches and industrial
sites(similar to NSW 48)
-97 T/H/P class locos in service versus only 18 49 class.

The 4-axle mechanism required might also be able to be adapted for Y
class body (also different bogies sideframes and other dimensions)

We look forward seeing to Austrains T class.

Best regards..............Paul P

In full agreement with you, Paul, a T and its derivatives would be most
useful models, shunting, short pass. trains, push-pull, S,B,A,C etc. all
very nice, but often too big for most trains. And if possible Y ,also a
useful type

Since when is a Victorian T/P class been painted in ARG livery???

ARG have 2 T class - but they are modified SAR 830 units (? similar to the
NSW 48s) not Victorian.  They have been modified with a low nose (like the
NSW PL) but renumbered 906 and 907 (or similar) - so I guess the two T
classes could be confused...

I was not considering these ARG T class locos as they are 6 axle and
nothing like a Victorian T/P class.

The former ANR T class, redesiganted as CK class in ANR service, all
five which were handed over to ARG. They operated on standard gauge,
broad gauge and narrow gauge in South Australia and also on narrow
gauge in WA at Albany. I am not sure if any had been re-painted into
orange and black ARG colours. Can anyone confirm if any were
re-painted?

Best regards.....................Paul P

Thanks for that Paul.

Check Locopage, it might have that sort of info.

Sorry when you said T class I thought of the Victorian T class. Most of my
friends call the ARG's T's chop nosed 48's

I never understand why the two groups of 10 Ts with quite different bodies
are both referred to as 2nd series.  All they seem to have in common is the
raised cab.
The first ten have a body like the first series, with squarish radiators but
with a raised cab;  the second ten have the later ("series 3") body with the
vertical radiators.
As modellers we are generally only concerned about visual, external
differences.  We don't usually differentiate between series 3 Ts and Hs
since they are visually identical.  Therefore it seems to me that there are
four basic model series of the T class, not counting rebuilds and T413 (D1)
etc.
As far as I know the current PSM model is the only HO scale model ever
offered of the "series 2-A" T.
