With the VR/VLine/FV/FA X about to appear in two scales, will either
of them be offered as the XR class? XR554 got its number plates on
Friday so the class which many people thought was an April Fools joke
does actually exist.

Yep, it's an 1st series X with a heart transplant (out of a G). 6 have
been done already (XR550-555) with 1 more to follow (XR556), and 3
"new" locos (XR557-559) built mainly out of spare parts on new frames.

Are we likely to see them in Sydney, or are they strictly broad gauge only?
Saw a couple of X s running to and fro up here over the past few days. 54
was one. Think the other was 48. also a G and a T have been running
regularly as a pair.

None of the XR class have entered service yet. Since they are 14t
lighter than a G for the same power they will probably be used on
faster trains such as MS9/SM9 intermodal.

X45, X46, X48, X50, X51, X53 and X54 are based in Sydney for the FA
oil traffic to Canberra, Dubbo and West Tamworth. Four T class (can't
remember which ones) are assisting leased ELs on grain traffic. The Xs
are rotated back through Dynon by working with Gs on MS9/SM9.

Cheers
