This will depend on the tpte of decoder installed and this will largely come
down to who installed the decoders.
If they were installed by the manufacturer of the locomotives then it is
most likely that the locomotives will run on either traditional DC control
or DCC.
Most factory installed decoders these days automatically sense which current
is present and respond accordingly.
There are some factory installed decoders that had a switch which allowed
the user to chose which control method was to be used.
If on the other hand the decoders were privately installed after purchase
then I would reccommend that you disable them. Most decoders do have a
setting which will allow them to be run on conventional control but you need
a DCC system to set them and in some of the cases where I have seen this
done it causes a lot of motor humm which worries me.
Might be a better proposition to buy a DCC system and run them on DCC.

That is always easy to say if you dont have 80 locos at home and a
layout already up and running happily
Might be a better proposition to buy them and try em, if they dont
work, you can make money on them on Ebay ALWAYS

In general yes, but some chips (Wangrow and Soundtrax) do not support DC
operation. Also it is possible the previous owner has disabled this
feature if they are second hand.
