Sorry, can't help with spare parts shop but you might be able to get spare
parts off an old one.
Some of each are interchangeable eg I have swapped Proto 2000 axles with
Athearn axles.
I used the NMRA Australasian Region's website as a guide for the axle swap.

Anthony,
That was the same problem I had. I fixed it by swapping the axles with an
old Athearn switcher which I was prepared to sacrafice to get the newer and
more expensive Proto repaired. This solved the problem in the Proto and the
bung Proto axles run prefectly in the Athearn without the same noise they
made in the Proto so it must the combination of the axles and the gears etc
in the Proto that causes the noise like an extremely flat wheel in a real
locomotive. I just swapped the axles as they were without touching the gears
fitted on the axles.

I don't know about Athearn, but LifeLike support their products very well.
I emailed them a while ago at orders@lifelikeproducts.com about the usual
split axle/gear problem, to see if they could supply some of the geared
axles.  A few days later I received a box of axle/bearings/wheels
assemblies, ready to drop in, no charge.  More than I needed but very much
appreciated.
