Paul, you may have to stretch your era a little bit...... ;-)
I would have to check my references to give exact dates but the OHGs
were introduced during the early to mid 1960s, (which is why Trainorama
are doing a Gunmetal version.....) In the late '60s they were rebuilt
and recoded GHG, which co-incided with the decision to paint Guard's
vans red, so all the GHGs were red......
A couple of the OHGs managed to get repainted red before they were
rebuilt, which is why Trainorama are doing a red version.....
There were never very many OHGs, most of the GHGs were built new in the
late '60s/early 70s.....
From memory the transition to red vans started in '68 or '69 and the
fleet went red very quickly, (and the LHGs, SHG/BHG and most of the PHGs
were very quickly withdrawn and never wore red, and (most of?) the MHGs
were rebuilt before they went red)
For the benefit of those who haven't had a look at the Trainorama page
lately I have just added a couple of pictures (courtesy of Graham Ball)
of the pre-production samples of some of the Guard's vans and the SAR
LX. The LXs, NVIF and the OHG are painted samples by Allan Brown.

I think that pretty much suggests that the OHGs had all been converted
to GHG by May 1969.....

Rule one of posting research information is...... CHECK BEFORE
POSTING!!!! ;-)
The OHGs listed in the 1963 "Carry Capacity of Goods Wagons" are *not*
the same vehicle as the Trainorama model. The OHGs in the 1963 list are
the last of the LHGs that hadn't been converted to auto couplings, (a
number retained hooks and screw couplings to facilitate their use on
stock trains, as up until the introduction of the (1959)BCWs and BSVs
most stock wagons were fitted with hooks and screw couplings)
The Trainorama OHGs were introduced in 1965 and had all been converted
to GHG by 1969.
In the interests of accuracy I have made a small addition to the list.....
