Howdy folks!

I was wondering if the receiver and servos I have are any good, or are they
bare minimum?

The Receiver is a Futaba Dual Conversion FP-R138DF
and the Servos are Futaba FP-S148's.

I checked the servos out on the Futaba website and they seem to be quite
good servo's, but hey! they are not exactly gonna say they are crap! don't
buy em are they?.lol

I have a lot of learning to do with this excellent,  and MUST say  expensive
hobby with heli's, but that's the fun part I guess? well apart from flying
them that is. It's just a pity my heli is grounded most of the time due to
annoying little main gear mishaps:(

cheers!

The Rx is fine, but the servos are Futaba's cheapest. No ball bearing
support of the output shaft so they quickly develop a lot of movement about
the shaft which can make flying a bit harder. They also used to have a VERY
serious problem where the wires going to the motor (from the PCB) came
adrift at the PCB end, so the quick fix was to remove the bottom of the case
and apply a dollop of Evo-Stik to the junction of the wires/PCB. After doing
that, they help up for years.

The later version of that servo (3001) had a single output shaft bearing and
they don't wear out quite as rapidly as the 148's, and they're still VERY
good value (and cheap to buy too), but of course if you want REALLY good
servo's you can go digital with double ball races and super fast motors, but
of course, you pay the price.

Main gear mishaps are usually because the building wasn't 100% (more
experience stops that being an issue usually), so RTM again, and make sure
you're following it EXACTLY when you fit (or play with) another main gear.

The bit wot sticks out o' t' top o' yer servo wot the servo arm fastens
onto? Well that's yer output shaft, an' therz no ball bearing on it so it
wears out. Sum servos 'ave one bearing an' sum 'ave two, Two's better than
one and one's better than none. Thy's geet none.

Can't get me 'ead 'round Monopoly. I mean "Mono" means one and "poloy" means
MORE than one, so what's Monopoly all about?
