Backlash

Anyone know how it's possible to adjust the backlash when the clutch
assembly and engine are securely fixed to the frame? My MRB's are easily
turned in the normal direction (a sort of manual auto) but it grinds and
sticks a bit in the other direction. If i push the front of the engine
upwards, i can get it turning a bit smoother, but as i let it go, they grind
to a sudden halt. There is no adjustments i can make to it to allow it to
turn smothly as like i said before the engine/clutch assembly are securely
fixed to the frame. Maybe my clutch is worn after all. :-(

'ere matey, how often do you expect yer MRB's to be spinning the wrong way?
I've been flying my heli for about 7 months now and on 0 occaisions have my
blades spun in any direction other than normal. Now, I like to keep an open
mind... and your heli may act differently. Point is, if it's likely to spin
in both directions then try and sort out the backlash, otherwise just go and
fly it :P

Lol, i didn't mean when the engine was running. My m8 has the same model and
his blades spin freely in BOTH directions. More freely the normal way i
hasten to add. Mine USED to spin easyish in the "wrong way", but not any
more. :-(

Sounds like trhe one-way bearing in your auto is dragging. Try removing the
main shaft and cleaning the bearing, then put a little THIN oil on it.
Should help your blades turn the wrong way again!

What is the Helicopter?

It sounds a bit trollish, "if I push the front of the engine upwards"

Either a troll or a bag of worms...

Trollish?? Bag of worms??? Would that be a big bag of worms? Cos if it's no,
then ahm no buyin' them.

Nae trolls or worms in sight. What i meant by the "if I push the front of
the engine upwards" is that if i apply a bit of pressure to the front of the
engine near to where the glow plug sits (but in an upwards "towards the
servos" motion) the movement is more loose, but the second i remove the
pressure, it stops. Hmmm!

Sorry your still not making any sense - what is the helicopter and what is
the engine? It might be that the motor mount is the wrong way round or not
aligned correctly.

When do i ever make sense. :-)

The heli is a Nexus 30 with an MDS 38 engine installed. Everything was ok
last time i flew it. Never touched it, but virtually overnight something
changed. Now when i try to fly it, i can have the thing at full revs and all
it wants to do is turn on it's skids. It WON'T lift off!! I have posted a
binary pic on this newsgroup of the clutch interior just incase someone
could tell me by looking at it if the clutch lining has worn out.

Cheers,

Its most likely the clutch lining - they are only a few pence so its worth
changing.

Naaaah! Although i have heard that MDS are crap too, there is LOADS if life
in it. The engine is well ok. I think Stickman has it. Gotta be the clutch
lining. I was just lookin' for input first to maybe confirm it.

Cheers

Just a thought... if you aren't using them already, use washers under the bolt
heads that fix the engine mount in place. This should give you a little bit of
movement for adjustment without the bolt heads settling back into the recess
they might have already made.

You shouldn't be able to move the enginie like that, there has to be
something lose. I'd give it all good check over.
