Do any model shops ever check their E-mail or give a toss about their customers??

Joe landy - 18 Aug 2004 20:02 GMT Dear group members. I have E-mailed Leamington hobby centre over the past couple of weeks to ask them a few questions about the upcoming competition, and about a few of their products, but they have never replied. Does anyone know if they have facilities for reading E-mail? I have even tried copying all mails to my work's address to make sure they're actually being sent. They are, and still I have no replies. Considering I'm a customer and I pay their wages, I'm amazed at their ignorance. I have tried on several occasions with no luck. I tried phoning them today, and got no reply. Perhaps if they displayed their opening times on their website I would know when to phone. To be honest, I'd have expected a reply from ANYBODY I E-mailed within a week ESPECIALLY A BUSINESS! Not answering the telephone is just incredible. Anyway, subsequently, I will not be attending their competition day, and I won't be buying anything from them. It never fails to astound me how model shops really don't give a damn about their customers. I think they all want us to visit their shops and just buy things which we can see on the shelves. Well I'm sorry, but there are no helicopter-orientated shops in my area, and I need a few particular spare parts for my models. I tried Midland Helicopters this afternoon after waiting 2 weeks while they re-locate to larger premises. To my amazement, they were closed. I gave up e-mailing Midlands about 2 years ago, and have wondered why I bother every time I deal with them. Well, that only leaves a few shops left who sell the parts I require, and the next on the list was Skyline models. The phone was answered immediately, and within 3 mins 10 seconds, my parts were on their way. I even had to enquire about a Futura SE Drive belt, as there is no part number shown in my manual. Excellent friendly service Skyline, I'll be coming back to you again and again. In the meantime, perhaps the group can suggest some more useful and friendly heli shops to me. I require a supply of Robbe, Kyosho, X-Cell and JR Spares. I would also like to extend my list of places to buy secondhand models. I live in Peterborough, and would prefer to deal with shops based in the UK. Friendly service would be a bonus, as would people who actually care about selling me what I require. I'm not an unreasonable person, and if they can't help me, I would simply like to be informed of such. I can then make my own decisions as to where else to order from. Failing to reply to enquiries from their own websites is very poor indeed. Is it any wonder I never order from these places online? I work as a purchaser of electronic components, control gear, and workshop tooling. I deal with a wide range of industries, and often very specialist and distant suppliers and I have never found any company so arrogant as these model shops are. How Midland helicopters found the need to expand is beyond me. Industries with Attitudes of model shops would simply fall by the wayside. The same would go for any company in the domestic consumer market. I know some of the model shop owners monitor these groups, and I hope they will begin to listen to the customer, or even respond to the customer. Well here's your golden chance.
For all group members, Your helpful Comments and suggestions on where's best to shop will be warmly welcomed. Cheers. Joe Landy (unable to fly till tomorrow when my Skyline order arrives!). Peterborough UK.

angrybob - 18 Aug 2004 19:37 GMT Try E-RC in Bristol I have always had excelent service from them. I poped in there a few weeks ago to say hello and was amazed, the place is bulging with spares [i mean each spare in stock and some 10-20 deep of each individual part - amazing] and kits everywhere, expeciallyy good for Robbe, Thunder Tiger, Hyosho and JR which I have.

Joe landy - 18 Aug 2004 20:49 GMT Excellent, I'll try them when Skylines are out of stock, or will pop in when I visit my sister in Bristol. I have to admit, I have seen the E-RC adverts in the helimags, but their name has always suggested to me that they're an internet-based company. I will not deal with faceless, address-less internet companies anymore. Hyosho sounds good. Hirobo quality at Kyosho prices? Perhaps the other way round on some parts too! Are E-RC quick and reasonably-priced postage wise too? Cheers for your reply. Joe Landy Peterborough UK.

Kevin - 18 Aug 2004 21:07 GMT Can't speak about postage, but the times I have popped in E-RC were very helpful. When they didn't have the Kyosho spare I needed on the shelf they broke a kit up! That's what I call service.
My only critiscm on E-RC is that their website has never gone past the "under construction" stage. Can't have everything I suppose!

That's what I call service. It is, but it's what most model shps will do WHEN YOU'RE THERE. When you're NOT there however, things generally take on a whole other aspect. Skyline models go balls out to help even if you're not at their shop though, and THAT'S what I call service.

An "E" shop with poor E-ability sounds a bit like a pub 'bout beer to me.

angrybob - 18 Aug 2004 22:05 GMT Hi,
E-RC have always dispatched the same day that I have ordered, no problems there.

X5 - 18 Aug 2004 20:11 GMT Leamington Hobby Centre is owned by Shun Brown who's day job is to fly 747's for BA. The shop is a money making scheme. No discounts, poor service. Lessons if you join his club at £25 hour and to top it all a club ran from the shop which flouts every BMFA safety guideline going.
You fund his flying.
The website is not finished and has been unfinished for months. Its a hobby for the owner not a business. Its the rest of us poor fools who pay extortionate prices for poor service. Still he offered to do web pages in FrontPage at £4 per page per month for any one willing to pay.
Why fund the R44 helicopter he flies? Go to a decent shop such as Skyline and get a service.
I am not into hero worship of a one time national scale champion who tells you that the only way is his way.
People at his flying site have been told not to promote other products (at one time he said to someone don't tell people Raptors were good because the shop only sold shuttles) or get thrown off the site.
Look forward to the WILDCAT day which is to happen shortly.
Don't be so impertinent as to await a reply from LHC, that is for the privileged few in the inner circle of the Shun Brown wheel.

Joe landy - 18 Aug 2004 21:44 GMT Hehe. I didn't want to mention Sean brown myself, but now that you have.....! I've met him a few times, and subsequently been pushed out of the conversation by a few of his other 'ring members' turning up! I think we gave him a surprise when we turned up to a 'full-size-pilots' only show (no, not helitech, but we went there too!). He probably didn't know other modellers know other fullsize pilots too. Anyway, I was interested in going to the wildcat day, and having a look around his scale accessories on sale, but I'll forget about it now. I didn't know he was into R44s now. Last time I looked, he was throwing his R22 around like a child with a new toy. I'm sure he's not licensed to put on airshows, and it's only a matter of time before there's an accident and he loses everything. Having seen his scale flying on his videos, I think I'd look elsewhere for tuition. I wasn't aware he was any sort of scale champion. Must have been in the early days........ Anyway, Flying for me has been very slow this year, largely due to strong winds (the wx, not me) and a high sunburn risk (the weather, not my welding). I was hoping to do some preventative maintenance on my futura, restore my Concept DX to flying condition, begin on my Kavan Jet ranger restoration project (with new mechanics, old ones missing!) and even buy some spares for my Kalt GS alpha which is now in a Len Mount squirrel fuse, and represents my local police helicopter. I was planning on flying this latter beauty at Sean Brown's do, but I think I'll wait for the Loughborough meet, or something similar. Must remember to order some more fuel too......... Cheers. Joe. X5 - 18 Aug 2004 21:51 GMT Yep, He holds an ATPL helicopters but has no display Pilot authorisation (Confirmed by the CAA today) all his displays at previous days have been without authorisation. Still thats Shun, he's crossed swords with the CAA in the past and Shun is beyond caring.
Shun will no doubt trash our hobby when there is an accident at one of his shows.Thats either a full size or model accident.
He bought his R44 about a year ago, he traded up his R22.
Magnum Fuel from skyline is an excellent price and he delivers it too. The fuel works very well.
Jerry from Wildcat and Shun are now members of that elite club, they have both crashed Bell helicopters.(Ask the CAA)
As you guessed I am not one of the Shun Brown fan club, seen him be a prat with both full size and models and put the hobby at question too many times to be a member of his "fan" club.
In every hobby you have renegades, the danger is when they are rich and have a hobby shop and flying club. They damage all of us when they feed their own ego's. Then they go onto other hobbies.

He made it pretty clear that he was interested in buying it, and in his (then) column, almost said he had, but not quite. I wonder if he ever DID?Anyone know?
