Caliber 30:  What head speed do people use?  I've been doing 1550 & 1700 rpm...

Depends on your skill, what blades and possibly what fuel

1700 - 1800 seems to be the common recommendation for sport flying.
Shouldn't exceed 1800 if you are using woodies.
