I am a newcomer to the hobby.
I purchased a Raptor 30, JR XP6102 (helicopter) radio, and a Futaba
GY401 gyro over the course of several months.
I had a local hobby shop look over my setup. One of the difficulties
he came across was that, in his words: "when you switch the idle up
switch it also controls the gyro which switches it from normal to
heading hold".
Apparently he believes that the gyro should REMAIN in heading hold
unless I specifically switch it myself, not tied in with the idle up.
He tells me that as I get more proficient, I will quickly outgrow the
radio as I will be severely limited in 3d flight.
I called JR, but they refused to discuss this issue as they do not
support using the Futaba gyro with the JR radio.
The hobby shop guy keeps recommending the Futaba 9c or JR 8103. I
can't afford to replace my radio right now.
It is too late to return the radio to the vendor. Does anyone know
anybody with a similar setup? How did they get past the issue?

So, don't plug the gyro's spare channel connector into the receiver. Just
leave it disconnected.

I would just wait until I find that the radio and setup is too limiting.
It's likely that you'll want the bigger box at some point, but why not wait
and work with what you have? Far as I'm concerned, the hobby shop guy's
opinion carries no more weight than anyone else's. Probably less, because
his agenda involves trading some gadget for my cash. (Not that this is
always in conflict...)

I just discovered, last night, that my 8103 radio does this same thing but
only with the Aux3 channel which is channel 7.
What I did to keep the Gyro in hold mode is to change the end point
adjustments and the center trim adjustment for the channel. In your case,
that would be channel 5. I am not sure if the XP6102 radio is a computer
radio but, if it is, set the high end point to a percent for the gyro. The
Gyro manual suggests 90 percent. A number between 50 and 100 should keep it
in the hold mode. You may need to reverse the channel. For the low end
point, try 20 percent. This will switch the gyro out of hold mode. If you
want it to stay in hold mode, set it to above 50. You can also move the
center sub trim above 0 or below 0 to set at what point the hold mode
switches on and off.
I used the screen to watch the position of all the servos and kept adjusting
the end points until I got it to work the way I wanted it to.

Hello
very simple solution. Don' use the yelow cable of the Gyro ans set the
sensitivity fix on the GY-401. No need to change the sensibility in flight.
Once seting is made then enjoy flying.

it is very easy to get the idle up and gy-401 modes on different
switches with the xp6102, i have one and by holding down and select an
then turning it on you enter a different mode, keep scrolling up until
your reach "switch sel". here you can set up differnt switches to d
what ever you like, if you set it up right the gyro should by on th
"gear" channel. so by changing the switches under switch sel mode yo
can move and operation such as the gyro and idle up to any switch, jus
make them differn

ok in the menu that you get by starting up the radio with select an
down pressed. i set my dual rates to common aileron. and gear t
elevator switch.
the gear switch is always going to control the throt hold no matte
what... but you can make the actula channel run on a difrent switch
then plug your gyro control wire in to the gear ch. and use the trave
adjust ment to control the gain... (mine is at 38% but that will chang
due to gyro and servo is diffrent) and your elevator d/r switch will no
turn your gyro's heading hold on and off.
hope this helps
