OK, i made a mistake & sold up a couple of years back but now i'm back on
the scene. I did have a fully loaded X-Cell Pro2k guided by a Futaba9Z w/c.
What is a good machine currently although i have ideas of my own but any
useful input would be welcome.

Well, the Pro2k is a good machine.  Unfortunately, MA isn't making the kits
any more.  Parts, fortunately, are still readily available.

The top line Hirobo Eagle machines will work nicely straight out of the box.
Be prepared to bend over when you check out the pricing on one!  :-o  Hirobo
makes lesser (?) versions that can perform quite nicely in an F3C contest
for a somewhat lesser price.

The upper lever JR helicopters are very nice as is the Kyosho Caliper.  I
don't really know about the JR equipment but if you look at the 60/90 size
Caliper, be prepared for the sticker shock on that one too!

I'm still flying Pro2k's and like them a lot.  Mainly, I'm familiar with the
model and it's flight characteristics and haven't been too motivated to
change.  I'm afraid I don't know enough about the other birds I mention here
to be of much use to you by way of their mechanical specs and setup
idiosyncrasies.  What I do know is that I've seen all of them consistently
at the competitions I've attended for the past 10 years or so and I don't
think you'd go too wrong with any of them.

Best of luck,
Steve R.
