Just an idle thought....

Can a heli engine (OS SX32H, I have one spare) be used in a fixed wing
aircraft without mods? I'm thinking probably not and mainly due to the
carb.....
Regards, Jeff.

Why not?

i run all new heli engines in a plane for about a gal of fuel
also helps to get the carb set up as well

In Short yes, it can be used for a plane, it is usually only the Cylinder
head that makes these engines different for Heli's...ie the bigger fins for
cooling etc on the head, the carbs are rarely any different to a standard
aero engine.

So if the engine is sitting idle.......go use it on your plane...with the
right cooling it may actually run better than a standard aero engine due to
the improved cooling area on the head.

Cheers Mark (and the others). Just one more question, The aluminium
cylindrical boss that fits onto the driveshaft, is that the "drive
washer" in OS engine parlance? I am missing that part, if I can buy
one from OS, fine. If not I will machine one up.

Many thanks for the help.

Drive/Prop Washers are easy enough to pick up from any hobby store that does
engine spares and cheap too, don't forget you will a nut too that fits on
the shaft to tighten up to the prop.

Then you'll both have to work harder to catch ME up:-)

Flying since I was 14, so that's 42 years, and the last 29 with heli's.

Pete Christy'll be along soon to tell you that he's been flying since Adam
was a lad, but don't believe a word of it:-))

No problem at all. I've run a number in fixed wing , and I like to
break the heli engines in on a fixed wing. Just seems easier to me.
The only difference is the heat sink head and most if not all heli
engines are ringed.
