Probably my problem has already been often discussed here but anyway, here
are my questions :
I would like to start with R/C heli but I do not know anyone who can train
me, nor is there any club where I can go for advice. I do not have any
experience with R/C flying (I only have an R/C nitro car)
Is it possible to learn R/C flying via a simulator on the PC ? Is it
possible to learn first on a simulator how to take off and land, and make a
simple forward flight ... and then try this on a real heli without crashing
the bird ?

What is a good electric heli to start with and how many channels does the
transmitter need to have ?

you can learn  on a sim  to a point
but you will need some one to set up the heli before you try it
i learnt the hard way with planes and helis ( no one to help)
have a look at the bmfa site if you are in the uk and you may fine a club
that can help you

the catch 22 question is you need to be able to fly to set it up  then you
can learn to fly it after its set up, as for channels four minimum for a
fixed pitch type 5 normally its a lot easier to set up with a helicopter
radio, and you can learn to hover on a sim I have just about mastered that
after playing with FMS (google for it its free) and I can hover a full tank
of fuel as for electric I have no experience of them
