The set up cost is even more than a complete helicopter
(www.hobbyjapan2000.com)
I think you can just try to the rc club and ask some friendly person to
help you out.

watch them flying first and then select the person to ask. <g>
At least their flying style will tell you what to expect from their
adjusting style. On the other hand some are good with screwdrivers and
bad with sticks...

some become good with sticks because they 'r bad with a screwdriver.

Yepp, after some thought I would rephrase myself:
Watch them flying and then find their mechanic :)

That REALLY pisses me off! $300 to help someone setup a model??? @#$%^
All I can say is the model better fly itself after taking that kind of
reaming up the back side!!
David,
Please don't consider paying that, it's outragious. Unfortunately, I'm in
the States so I can't help you much but if we were within reach of each
other, I'd be happy to give you a hand. No charge! I had "several" people
help me when I was learning and there have been many more people with
worthwhile tidbits of info through the years that have helped me. All of it
was for the love of the hobby and not for profit. When I help a newbe, or
even someone who's not so much a newbe but is having trouble diagnosing a
problem, I'm just passing one the favors and considerations that others have
shown me through the years.
Look around, check out the RC clubs that are closest to you. You'll find
someone who's willing to help "without" trying to take you to the cleaners
in the process.
Good luck!
Steve R.
PS: Don't be afraid to ask questions here. There are plenty of us that
will make every effort to talk you through some of this. Admittedly, it's
not easy to do in print but it also won't cost you $300!!

Erk!
What exactly do you mean by set up? I presume you have assembled the heli
& installed the servos, etc. Have you got starting equipment, etc?
Visit a few clubs in your area. Try http://www.maaq.org/Club_Listings.htm for a start.
You need to find an active club with some heli flyers, preferably flying the same
radio mode as you propose to fly (this lets them use your radio for the job).
I have never met an aeromodeller yet who hasn't been prepared to give a hand
or advice when approached.
Note that the club insurers will require that you have a membership (ie: pay their premium)
if you visit more than a couple of times.
BTW: What model heli have you got?

Gold Coast close enough?
What heli? what mode? What shop? (so I can stay away)
Just at the moment I need about 5 extra hours each day to do what I
need, but I'm happy to help if we can fit it in...
