I have just been given one of these to play with, now i know that
everyone thinks there a bad do, but hey, its worth a go! Has anyone got
a instruction manual / setup guide to the chopper or any spare bits
lying around?

Any constructive tips would be ace...

Cheers,

Fixed Pitch, i was looking into modfiying it, but i have no idea were
to start i believe there was a kit but where to get it and what price i
dont know... Plus i dont want to spend much money on it, as its not
really that highly thought of, i am actually wondering if it will even
work!

Cheers,

Greg

If its the fixed pitch one, watch out for the piano-wire teeter spring
breaking! They are completely uncontrollable without this, and as the
manufacturers never radiused the hole they go into, they broke with alarming
regularity!

The fixed pitch ones did fly, but they weren't great machines. However, they
are so simple that it is usually possible to bodge a suitable repair when
required.

The collective ones were a lot heavier, and I never saw one fly - though I have
spoken to someone who claims he managed to get his airborne briefly! (I have a
feeling it was when he hurled it into the canal in frustration!)

There was an upgrade of this part brought out by MFA to cure this problem as
it was quite common, basically a thicker bit of Piano wire that did not
break
I know I had it on mine...and yes mine does still fly although I wish I had
got the collective upgrade kit for it....will have to have a scout on ebay
methinks.

Sorry if this comes up twice but i don't know if it worked first time -
It is the fixed pitch, i was going to modify it to collective (i
believe there was a kit) but the chopper has somewhat of a bad image so
i dont really want to spend too much money on it, i can't see it
lasting too long anyways!

The Sport 500's haven't been around for a long time.  The collective pitch
upgrade was, as I recall, a last minute improvement that wasn't on the
market long before the machine pretty much disappeared.  As you pointed out,
the MFA Sport 500 didn't have that great a reputation anyway.  I would think
that spare parts would be pretty hard to come by and there are relatively
inexpensive models on the market today that will fly "way" better the Sport
500 and be more reliable to boot.

I'd clean it up and hang it from the ceiling.  It's an interesting part of
model helicopter history but not worth putting back into flying condition,
IMO!

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.
Fly Safe,
Steve R.

I have a like new fixed pitch sport 500 that I just crashed this
morning. I was teaching myself to fly it, when I set it down too
hard. Both tail rotor grips are broken, and the main baldes have a  dent
in the trailing edge.I have the manual and the original box.I am
looking for parts or will sell it. new o.s. .45;new futaba 4ch aircraft
radio, and gyro. red canopy, clear windows.all or part. I would rather
fix it, as it flys ok to me.

I don't suppose anyone still has a copy of the manual they can emai
me?

I have the collective version (bought it like that).  I bought it an
built it about 13 years ago, have flown it twice, first time the glu
gave away on the servo chassis, second time had it hovering about 1m.

since then we've moved around a bit and i've lost the manual.  Havent
had time to get back to it until now, everthing still works, i'd jus
like to get a copy of the instructions.

cheers

Andrew

Hi, new to this group (from the UK).  I've also just aquired an MFA 50
nad had same questions re: manual and spares.  There is hope!  Th
company that made the 500 still exists in the UK.  The web link i
http://www.mfacomodrills.com/.  They will send you a manual for aroun
£6.95 and have spares available.  I'm waiting for a parts list a
present!  New to helis but feel duty bound to get it started!!

Cheers

Had a couple of these, personally speaking I wouldn't bother .bits kept
flying off or falling apart under their own steam.

Hi Simonhatton,

Are you still looking for that manual?

This is my first time on this site, so I'm only seeing your post, but I do
have a complete MFA sport 500 collective, and still have the manual. If you
still need one, I could scan a copy and send it on.

Let me know...

Jude
