Just taken the plunge and bought the 8700g servo, whats the best gyro for the money out there? Ask a question like that and if 6 people respond, you'll get 7 opinions:-) As for me and MY opinion.... you'd be VERY hard pressed to get anything better than the CSM SL560. The Futaba 401 is good value for money AND a good gyro too, as is the 601 (I don't care for the JR gyro's at all) but I'd go for another 560 with not a single seconds hesitation. It's the only gyro (well CSM's in general) where you can hook it up to the PC and play with a raft of parameters to get the absolute best out of it. For the vast majority of flyers though, the gyro works superbly out of the box, but you've got the option of tuning it VERY specifically if you want. No other gyro is as "tweakable" that I know of. These are excellent (IMHO) gyro's that will match the 8700 well (trust me, I know) and dont cost the earth. If you dont want to buy second hand then opt for the SL560 as the price new is not much more than the 540 I also agree about the JR Gyros, I'm sure they are very good, I just have never been able to set them up without much head scratching and messing about with the settings.
