Just totalled the damage
tail output shaft -bent
tailslide ring- ball broken off (why is this plastic?)
flybar- bent like a banana
tailboom- now a 3 piece, dont think I can glue that bit
feathering spindle- bent
tailbrace clamp - half missing
main blades- 1 whole , 1 multipiece
main rotor thrust bearings- 1 ok,the other destroyed removing blade holder,
no ballbearings left
Have yet to check mainshaft
The trouble I was experiencing today was the motor ( OS Max-50SX-Hring) was
having trouble idling without the glowstarter attached constantly. I found
that leaning the motor ( to about 1 turn out) solved this and the pitch of
the motor was good but the motor would then appear to loose power after
around half a tank of fuel ( hovering) and settle back to the ground. I
turned the needle to around 1.5 turns out and with a bit of fiddling got it
to run at just above idle. Trouble now is that it sounds like the motor is
drowning and little power and it is spitting lots of oil but little or no
smoke. I was running it on helimaster fuel (10% nitro) but as its a 100km
round trip to get that I changed to what I could get locally. This is ProGlow
16% nitro 66% methyl alchol 18% oil.
I have run 2 litres of this fuel so far with no problems but this batch has
caused the above trouble,I think.
The local dealer recommended 30% nitro for helis but I am not to sure about
this. I dont think its a glowplug problem as I changed the plug ( enya 3)
for a new one and it still did it.
What fuel ( % ) do most use in here?
This is my 3rd major crash ( caused by running out of fuel at 3 feet this
time) since I got the heli and the wifes getting a bit peeved....lol
Think I should just go back to fishing.....lol

Hi, on my newest Raptor 50 I also use an OS 50 SXH. The fuel I am using is
15% nitro and 15% synthetic oil, (Aerosave oil, which i think is an oil made
in Europe). On my oldest Raptor 50 I use the TT 50 Pro engine, and this
engine runs smoother than the OS, but the OS has a tiny little bit more
power than the TT. I use the same fuel on the TT. So the point is.....the
15/15 fuel combination has worked very well for me, I have logged about 130
hours flight time with that fuel. The main needle on my OS is about 1 turn
out. The glowplug i use is Enya 3.

Dennis,
You mention "leaning it out by turning the screw out" - the symptoms you
describe too sound like its far too rich, which would be the case if you've
been turning the screw out.
Not idling without the glow plug attached is confirmation that it's too rich
in the low throttle position.
It sounds like you need to set the low throttle position fuel mixture, and
leave the main fuel mixture where it was.
Dave.

Didn't clear that up -
screw in = leaner
screw out = richer

Thanks Dave, I did actually mean in = leaner, had to many bourbons to drown
my sorrow when I typed that......lol
The fuel I was using has 18% oil and I think this maybe what is causing the
trouble,oiling the plug up.
I am going to try a different fuel when the heli's rebuilt, with a less oil
content. Got the quote back today, $135 Australian + blades.
Ah well

The fuel i use in my TT50 Pro in my Raptor 50, is Model Technics sport 5,
Its 5% nitro, & pink. My TT 50 Pro, is running on the 'out of the box'
settings, it ran first off, & has not missed a beat since. I did not fiddle
with any settings, I just fitted it & it ran. Lucky ? Maybe, "If it aint
broke, don't try & fix it".
