You did "some" stick twiddling, but did you do full collective AND some
(lots of) cyclic stick twiddling? Sounds to me like something is trying to
push the links beyoned their mechanical limits.

A PISS easy way to make sure nothing's getting pushed is to simply watch the
head as you go to full collective and move the cyclic stick in a circle. If
there's ANY movement being overdriven, the head will turn when the cyclic
stick reaches the "corners" of it's movement.
