Hello

Can anyone tell me can I connect two 7.2 V Ni-MH packs in series to get
14.4V, use it for powering 20 W halogen lamp, and after power runs down
disassemble it and charge 7.2 V packs separately, first one and then
another.
Is it possible to do this and not damage the batteries?

I own smart battery charger that can charge only 10 cells (MW 7168 omni) and
I need 14.4 V battery.

Thank you

A 7.2 pack is 6 cells in series.  A 14.4 pack is 12 cells in series.
Therefore, two 7.2 packs in series is the same as 12 cells in series which
is the same as a 14.4 pack.

However, one word of caution.  It is best that the cells are the same make
and model - this means that the cells will charge/discharge equally and you
won't run the risk of individual cells being overstressed.

Cheers,

Nigel

Yes you can, simply connect them in series using eg 4mm bullet
connectors - assuming they are the same capacity you shouldn't have any
problems.
