Dude - 15 Jan 2006 05:54 GMT So you like Heli's. What about a Custom made RC Heli about the size of a Golf Cart that is powered by a Turbine Engine. Just an amazing job of
engineering and construction. Check out this guys Toy and start to druel.. http://www.pm-video.at/video/video.php

The cutting in and out of the turbine noise is annoying as hell too... Someone let me know how it flies..
FiDo - 15 Jan 2006 18:47 GMT An impressive project, BUT.............. It flew like a tail heavy pig with a badly setp up throttle and pitch curve, with a drifting tail.

You can download the video and skip to the building and flying parts..
"An impressive project, BUT.............. It flew like a tail heavy pig with a badly setp up throttle and pitch curve, with a drifting tail."
Keep in mind it was his first flight with it and he was still trying to dial in the Trim and setting im sure. If you just took 6 months and many thousnads of dollars to build would you just go full throttle on take off and try and put it through the paces? Not me.

If if had been downloading at a reasonable rate, I would have done that, but at 13k/sec?? Must've been the rest of you all trying to view it at the same time and clogging up his poor server. :)

Doug McLaren - 16 Jan 2006 22:09 GMT | An impressive project, BUT.............. | It flew like a tail heavy pig with a badly setp up throttle and pitch curve, | with a drifting tail. Just like my little electric heli! :)
(but that problem is at least as much me as the equipment.)

Steve R - 19 Jan 2006 04:46 GMT The initial hover flights looked that way but they were, after all, "initial" hover flights. The slow figure 8's he was doing by the end of the video looked pretty good to me.
Also, if you've never flown a multi-bladed flybarless head, they can be significantly different from what we're used to with our two bladed, flybar systems. It's also a LOT heavier than anything most of have, or ever will, fly. All in all, I think he did a pretty good job on the flying part.
The only thing I'll pick nits with is the fact that, unless they do things differently in Austria, he's got his navigation lights on the wrong side. Toward the end of the vid, it sure looks like he's got green on the left or port side. I thought that was universally supposed to be on the right or starboard side?
FWIW! ;-)

Impressive project and I'd dearly love to fly the full scale version of one of those some day... (Flying these R22s is getting old.. hehe) I'd like to see more video as the bugs are worked out, but for Pete's sake (and who the F is Pete anyways??) get a different editor to piece together the intro stuff...
Smeghead - 19 Jan 2006 08:54 GMT If you think flying 22s is getting old come muster some cattle with one in central Australia. The old cows get pushed along with the skids, flying under trees and power lines (hopefully not through them but it has happened to a friend of mine). enough to give even the most seasoned pilot white knuckles. ;-)

Fun as hell, but at the time I had a hard enough time just flying straight and level. No way I was going to try that at the time.
Now? I think herding cattle might be kinda fun in a helicopter.

Try Peter Wales. (I can't remember his URL, but he builds some EXCELLENT scale turbine powered heli's.

I'm not sure Mr. Wales is the "Pete" he's refering to ;-), but you're right, Peter Wales does build some of the finest examples of scale model helicopters around. I've been fortunate enough to scrutinize some of his work at the AMA Nat's. "Impressive" doesn't even begin to describe them! <big thumbs up!>

FiDo - 20 Jan 2006 00:58 GMT Hello Mr. Beavis,
If it was ME doing the maiden flight, I'd have a to change me pants............
To be honest, I've seen vid clips of this project after it's been trimmed etc and it flies just great.
Just trying to be a poop stirrer. Who, me ?
P.S. Glad you're not dead, was worried, you've been a bit quiet lately.
> OMF#19 > VN 750 > Zed Thou Is this Northern for "I'd like curry sauce on my rice cake baps please" ? WTF ?

I f.cking hope not or my batteries are going to be royally shagged very shortly. They've been on charge since I last used the heli.

Like a total dog, but it still looks like the dogs bollocks:-) I suspect the owner is a bit concerned that about the amount of money he's got flying to really wring its neck though.
The Bolkow tends to sit tail down (full size), but that model seems to sit too far down and it looks very pitch sensitive. A sure fire symptom of a C/G too far back. Shame really.

Something else I'm wondering about is, the exhaust on the turbine looks like it's aimed pretty much straight back. If so, it's still putting out a few pounds of thrust in that direction and the only way to hold it back is to rock the rotor disk in the aft direction. Isn't that why they have those "Y'd" exhaust pipes on the pod and boom versions?
Just a thought?

Until he had a deflector system made, it needed a fair handful of back stick to stop it haring off into the distance.
