How to determine kv rating

Hi,
I'm trying to build my own motor and I want to build it for a specific
kv. I know the kv rating is inversly proportional to the number of
windings on the armature, but I can't figure out the relation between
the wire gauge and kv, or it there are other factors which effect this
such as field strength or something else. If anyone has the formulas
that would be a huge help. Thanks.

Goedendag,

There is no relation between wire gauge and Kv (or Kt) assuming the wire is
not too thin, then all bets are off. Just do a quick'n dirty wind, say 10
winds, spin your motor with a dremel, measure rpm and voltage between the
phases (meter on AC). Divide rpm by voltage, presto, Kv for 10 winds. Want
double that Kv? Halve the number of winds and vice versa.

Goedendag 'Part II' ;-)

Are you building an inrunner or an outrunner??

It's an outrunner

No need for diy inrunner links then.
