Thank you all for taking the time to answer my question. Your comments were
very helpful. I suspect the dilema I have sounds familiar to the majority of
experienced flyers. I want to progress but I don't want to push myself into
doing something that's going to set me back and cost me a fortune in spares.

I'm going to continue as I am doing, "developing my muscle memory" which is
a new term to me and the general concensus seems to be that a sim is the
best way forward so that's on the shopping list.

Although I do realise, as Bob said, that the time for me to just bite the
bullet and push my personal envelope is not too far away.

Thanks again - John

P.S. It WAS Justin Chi. Amazing skill !

not April 1st was it?  call me a disbeliever but I that seems to good to
be true

Justin's the real deal, it's not somebody else flying while he
pretends on the Tx he's got hanging from his neck.  Justin's dad just
posted a new video of Justin's stick movements on helifreak.com and a
LOT of people have seen him fly (and crash) in person.

It's not really any different than one of those 4 year old whiz-kid
piano virtuosos...

Except that when a piano virtuoso f.cks up, his piano doesn't leap in the
air then proceed to commit suicide by throwing itself against any solid
oject within a 12 foot radius.

True, but having been to a LOT of piano recitals (My girls play) I
think the piano sometimes might WANT to commit suicide just like that.
:)

As a long time player of the aforementioned instrument (of torture?) I can
see your point. Although I've never seen a piano commit suicide, I have
myself actually murdered one by deep sixing it for failing to play what I
told it to play.

It never disobeyed again.

I've never played the piano, not have any desire to, but I have "Pete
Townsend"-ed a guitar 'cuz I couldn't get rid of the fret rattle no
matter what I did to the thing.  :)

I play piano every day. It's relaxing, challenging and thoroughly good fun.
You should try it. Really.

The neck needed relief. A bit like me then :-) "Townsending" a guitar is
heresy.

Um, no.  My girls play pretty well (Been goin' at it for almost 5
years) but I have no interest whatsoever.

No, the guitar needed to be killed.  I spent almost as much money in
"fixes" on the POS as I did on the purchase price.  My long time
"guitar wizard" who's been setting up my guitars since the early 80s
could never quite get it right so I decided to kill it and go buy
another.  THAT axe has been serving me faithfully since 1986...

I've had a few of those myself.

I've just bought a Gibson J-45 to go with my J-200 (bought in 1965), my Tele
and my SG.

I've had a few girlfriends that would have benefited all humaity with
that treatment..  :)

I bought some strings a couple months ago..  Case of GHS Boomers for
$12.  :)

Someday I'm gonna have the Gibson Custom Shop run me up a clone of the
'64 vintage SG I've been ogling in the local guitar shop for the past
8 years..  :)

If they've had it for 8 years, they should GIVE you the bloody thing.

I would have to agree, however, they won't even let you PLAY it unless
you give them your driver's license and a major credit card.  It
certainly does play and sound spectacular, but not $10k spectacular.
I doubt it had ever been gigged or anything as theres not a flaw to be
found on it other than some yellowing of the paint and the s/n does
match up to a  1964 model.  Not surprising it's still in the display
case tho.  If they'd knock it down to around $5k, I might think very
seriously of slapping down the American Distress card and taking it
home...

They take the piss with prices these days, but 10G (5,000UKP) isn't exactly
expensive for a good vintage SG.

That'd be 2.5grand in UK money and that's a gift, so I can't see it
happening.

From my wallet's vantage point it is.

Which is why it's still there after 8+ years.

I was talking in relative terms though, not personal wallet terms:)
