"Quiff Boy"

I'm always happy if I get 65% of new value for RC stuff.

The Reflex XTR has/is just going through a big update with new dongle that
you have to pay for, so this may devalue it somewhat further.
Midland Helis sell the old version for £100 at the moment.

Good luck.

Well to be honest I'm not a pro flyer so my thoughts wont be valid, I did
find phoenix was less cpu dependent on my machine runs a lot smoother and I
found set up and altering and understanding what I was doing easier on
phoenix, but as for is it a better sim I cant tell if the physics are
better. I started with csm 9 and I thought that was ok, it just more eye
candy. :-)

Regards

Rob

Hi Rob,

What's being a "pro" flyer have to do with it?  I think you answered Marc's
question just fine!  Very few of us can duplicate the abilities of folks
like Curtis Youngblood, Alan Szabo, and many others.  So what?!  I can't
come close to what they do either but I am competent within the limits of my
current skill set and have helped many folks through the years that were
advancing to my level.  You just did too!

For the record, I recently bought the Phoenix sim too.  I had been using
RealFlight 3.5.  I like both but find the Phoenix flight responses to be a
little more realistic, overall, and the graphics are easier to orient to,
especially when the model is at a distance so I like the Phoenix better.

Have fun & Fly Safe,
Steve R.

I started out with the old Skylark RC Heli sim back in the early 90s.
I might have flown MAYBE 5 flights with the training gear on IRL.
After taking about 12 years away from anything RC, I got back into it
a couple years ago.  My 1st purchase?  RealFlight 2.  I practiced on
that until I could hover tail in comfortably then bought a new heli.
No training gear required to hover.

Regardless of the sim, it'll develop muscle memory so performing a
manuever doesn't require any thought and those "oh s**t" moments are
recoverable.  I'm no Szabo/Kraus/Kim/Youngblood/Jetschin, but like
Steve, I'm competent within my skill set and my sim time has saved
more than enough helis to "earn" it's worth.

Skylark??  Wow, I'd all but forgot about that one.  I ran it for quite a
while as I recall.  It had dirt simple, block style graphics but it actually
"flew" pretty good considering the technology of the day.

Thanks for the memory jogger!  :-)

Somewhere around here, I think I still have my Dave Brown simulator for my
Commodore 64!  That was back in the day when I had a DuBro Tri-Star, Kavan
Alloutte II (sp), American RC Mantis (first heli kit I ever bought new), GMP
Cricket... Then I started flying more modern stuff like the Kyosho Concept
30.  The biggest improvement I experienced was when I first tried a gyro,
what a difference!  I think I'm getting old :-(

You're not old unless you have an original Huey Cobra and/or Kavan Jet
Ranger with no Hiller control.

I remember fitting my first ever gyro (Futaba) and taking it off the heli
after the first flight. It took too much control away from the 3 bladed tail
rotor I'd made for my Schluter Champion. It was a few months later that I
thought I could get around that problem and make use of the gyro and the
first thing I did was overdrive the tail rotor servo by 50%. The gyro worked
pretty well after that (at least the heli would pirouette), but it still
needed work on it to make it really useful.

Thank f.ck we don't have those problems these days.

I still have it somewhere..  As I recall it all fit on and would run
from one 3.5" floppy disk.  I wonder how it'll run on a 3+ GHz
machine..  It ran ok on a 486-33 back then...  :)

Hmmm, good question.  There's been a LOT of changes in CPU's and systems
through the years.  Microsoft has "generally" tried to maintain backwards
compatibility but that hasn't always worked out.  If you find it somewhere,
I'd be curious to see how well it does too!

Just checking about your comment about 'vista'.  If that is the reason for
the sale then you might not need to.

Reflex XTR will work with Vista, it's just the installer that doesn't.  See
here

http://www.reflex-sim.de/reflex-sim/shop/catalog/faqdesk_index.php?faqPath=15_135

Trouble with selling XTR is that there is a new version out.  The old style
dongles will only work with software versions below 5.04.  If you want to
continue using software versions 5.04 and beyond then you will need to pay
to upgrade the dongle.

Trouble is, any potential buyer will need to then need to compare the cost
of the second hand XTR plus the cost of the upgrade with the price of the
new version.

Cheers,

Nigel

Thanks for all the input.
I'll try and get 50 UKP for it :-)
