Newbie Ques - Easy Copter V6

Hi - I've just got into the fascination of flying and I've bought an Easy
Copter V6 - I was advised that this is one of the best for newbie's. My
question is: If the trimming is set accurately, should the heli hover in the
same position? At present I can only get it to hover in one position using
both levers.

TIA - Dave

That's called "flying". If a heli could hover all on its own, it wouldn't
require much in the way of skill and flying IS a skill. Even a contra
rotating toy requires a LITLE skill.

Just think hard about what you're expecting and then think what would be
required to achieve your "frozen in space" hands off hover. First of all
you'd need something to adjust the height and that would require the height
is measured (Doppler radar maybe?) and then you'd need something to control
the position of the heli relative to some point on the ground. This would
require something to determine (measure) exactly where the heli is in space
and then pass that information along so an automatic control input could be
sent. (GPS maybe?)

All that in a toy?

correct its a bit like balancing a ball on top of another ball but in a
gale, its always always going to need small corrections to stay at the
same height and relative position

Thanks for that - that's what I assumed but wanted it confirmed. BTW Good
explanation - suits my Janet & John thinking :-;

If you're flying in a gale, it might take a bit more than "small"
corrections to maintain height and relative position!  ;-)

My personal definition of a "trimmed" helicopter is one that doesn't "trend"
in the same direction all the time.  If it's always trying to go forward, or
sideways in the same direction, then it's out of trim.  Once you get it to
the point where it's not doing that, then the direction it's going to move
toward next is more a function of how precisely the "pilot" can position and
set the attitude of the main rotor.  That, of course, also assumes and free
moving and slop free control system to the main rotor but that's another
conversation in itself!

That's good advice Bob - I'll get over there now. I'm really going to enjoy
this hobby!

What, there's some serious insult hurling here?

Whatever next! :-)

Hardly.  Insults here are like having a marshmallow fight..

I was referring more to the ridiculous crap that goes on on other
radio controlled forums - especially RunRyder....

I did Runryder a LONG time ago. Never again.

Me either.  Been a couple years since I've been there.  Receiving a
warning for "arguing" with a user over what ground effect is was the
final straw.

OK fine, you want dumbasses to feed the unknowing masses incorrect
information, fine with me..

Ahh, arguing with one of the clique REALY isn't on Kev.

Precisely why I binned it off.

This guy wasn't one of the "clique"..  Just some dumbass know-it-all
from Arizona.  Several other full scale pilots chimed to to try nd get
this guy clued in, but he cried like a little bitch to Mark and we all
got "detention".

That whole site is a joke now.  Just for giggles, I logged in there
over the holiday. Nothing but petty arguments and name calling...

I had the feeling that it wouldn't improve, so I've not bothered checking
back for a long time. It'll be an even longer time now :-)

Bad form and all that, but...... a question.

I've got sat here a Trex 450 with a couple of Lipo batts and all the rest of
the stuff (brushless motor.ESC etc) but I've run into an issue (rather than
a big problem IYSWIM).

After making all the connectors up for the batteries to the motor/ESC and
all the charger&balancer leads, the f.cking battery "sparks" just once when
I attempt to plug it into the ESC. Now I'm no leccy heli freak but I'm not
convinced this is "A Good Thing". I could well be wrong though, so convince
me, then maybe I'll finish this build and fly the f.cking thing.

As a point of interest, there's no bridging going on at any of the
connectors. The soldering was absolutely spot on and I know,  because *I*
did it :-) and I checked twice before committing the leads to the gun and
afterwards too, so it's not a stray wire or a blob of solder that's causing
a short anywhere and it happens with both the batteries when I plug into
either the ESC or the charger. It's just a minute (as in small, not 1/60th
of an hour:-) spark but it's pissing me off.

And stopping the job.

mine sparks as well, par for the course really there a couple of
capacitors in ESC that might take a bit of current to charge

just used my power analyser and mine has a 7A surge when the battery is
connected

That's normal.  The capacitors in the ESC take a big slurp of
electrons as soon as power's applied.  That's the spark you're seeing.
It's a really big spark on a 6S or 8S pack.  :)

Now power the little bugger up and fly the snot out of 'er!!

Has Beav converted to wimpy electric jobbies or is it a build for some
one else ?

I have to say I'm tempted though. The T-Rex (with added alloy parts) is a
decent enough piece of kit and I've recently found a VERY nice site to fly
something quiet. It may happen yet :-) (again)
