Without any knowledge of RC Heli's, 2 yrs ago I made the error of buying my
then 12 year old son a Piccolo Pro for his birthday
He spent many many frustrating hours trying to hover the piccolo and even
after many hours on the sim he was never able to achieve the rush of his
first real hover
As a father with clumsy fingers I was never able to fly this little heli
ever - this became the most dissapointing birthday gift ever.
I now realise the hobby shop in question were just after the quick sale
Two weeks ago my son Trevor turned 14.
With his birthday money and dream of being able to fly a RC Heli we were off
to a different and very helpfull hobby shop
We looked at the TRex 600, the TRex 450 and although more expensive were
advised by the hobbyshop to seriousely look at the much cheaper Belt CP and
were assured that this would be a good place to start eventhough the
standard gyro which comes with the Belt CP would be slightly more difficult
to learn on without heading lock.
Trev took delivery of this RTF Heli 3 days ago, fitted the trainer skid, and
is already hovering for at least 5 mins
The dissapointment of the piccolo is long forgotten and he just cannot wait
for the battery to re-charge before he flies again
Trev has not had a crash yet and is being very patient through this learning
curve
The parts if required are so much cheaper than the T-Rex and we do expect a
few crashes along the way.
I have no doubt that Trev will progress to much nicer and more expensive
models in the future and can happily say that this Belt CP has been a great
introduction into the hobby

Wow Fred, great for both you and your son!

Once Trevor masters the Belt CP, the "big" helis are going to be a piece of
cake for him. I have a TRex 450SE and a Raptor Titan 50. That T-Rex is a
handful, very fast and I lose orientation i a hearteat The "big" Rptor 50 is
a dream and much more stable and easier to keep orientation with. I
definitley want to go for one of the nitro TRex 600N's though, sweet. With
your son's young relfexes and eyes, he should have it made. : )

Keep him flying, and it's great bonding time for you and your son!

I have both a trex 450 xl and a belt cp I have a small fortune into th
trex and it still wont do what I want it to as far as 3d but with  mor
money it will. The belt cp I had to scrap the stock radio then replac
the reciever after it failed during flight after onliy 3 flights. I a
a intermediate heli pilot so my setting will vary from yours. I mus
caution you  on the esky electronics and suggest you upgrade thos
components. The main gear on the belt cp is 140 tooth and very wea
install a helimax main gear it is 138 tooth and of much better quality
I have not found a replacement for the lower main gear that drives th
tail but I have not had one of those fail yet. Despite the rumors, mos
trex stuff will not fit at least without modafication like redrillin
holes in the tail boom or trimming the main shaft if you plan on usin
a trex head on this heli. I think for the price of the belt cp it is
great heli flies well. The trex has needed a couple upgrades right fro
the start where as the beltcp I was able to adjust the heli to get it t
perform. Happy flying and beware its a addictive hobby
