BB Gyro Vs. Solid State in my Concept 60 revival

I have a Kyosho Concept 60 in near mint condition with a JR PCM-10 radio,
carbon fiber blades and an OS 61sx engine which I bought new many years ago.
I haven't flown in a number of years but would like to get back in the air
again.
My questions are: Does it pay to upgrade from the Futaba bb gyro I have now
to a solid state unit?
Are there significant battery savings in doing so?
Thanks for any opinions or info or suggestions on what ELSE I should
consider before flying it again.

"Will it pay to upgrade from an old Futaba BB (ball bearing in case some of
you don't know!) gyro to a solid state (piezo) unit?"

Oh, H*LL YES!!!!!  There's a night and day difference between the two in
performance, power consumption, and weight.

Let's say you won a contest.  The prise is your choice of a 1970's vintage
Ford Mustang or a current model Ferrari 612 Scaglietti with all operating
costs covered (that's fuel and insurance) for the first 10 years of
ownership.  Which one would you choose?

Get the piezo!  You won't be disappointed.

Good luck & Fly Safe,

You know, I thought for a while, trying to figure out what I'd put opposite
the Ferrari that would make it such an obvious choice but I guess it
wouldn't have mattered what I chose, someone would take the car other than
the Ferrari.  ;-)

That's Ok, I like Mustangs too, but there's not much built in the US in the
early 70's that I'd consider.  That was about the time that the
manufacturers were being forced to add the early polution controls and they
didn't work very well.  As far as Mustangs go, I've always preferred the '65
to '66 models, a nice 289 V8 with 4-speed manual would do!
