Hi,

I am really interested in learning to fly rotary wing models -
specifically Collective Pitch helis.

I'm based in Glasgow City and have transportation.

What's a good club to go to for CP heli tuition?

Any hints, tips, beginner CP heli / transmitter suggestions will be
gratefully received also!

Many thanks,

Kenny

Here you go!

www.cvmhc.co.uk/

Clyde View Model Helicopter Club.

Oh and you'll need about £1000 to start this hobby from scratch!

Other clubs can be found at :- www.saaweb.org.uk/phplink/index.php?c=1

Have fun!

Hello,

wrote8's link to cvmhc.co.uk was most informative.

However I don't understand the "about £1000" to start this hobby from
scratch. I see an ESky Honey Bee King II 6CH Helicopter kit, which
includes everything (6ch TX, esc, gyro, batts, heli) for £134.99

Here's where I saw the Honey Bee for sale:
http://www.rc-hobbies.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=736

Is this rubbish and a toy, or would it do for a newbie to the sport
like me?

Many thanks!

Kenny

its basically a toy and most of it is junk built for a price and thats
it,I had a Honey bee 2 CP and it was more or less uncontrollable in the
hover, decent servos receiver transmitter will cost you more than this
but did learn to fly circuits with mine but a decent make of a 400 sized
bird will be so much easier to fly, if £134 is all you can afford then
forget it as it will crash and need rebuilding a few times

Kenny, you asked about model helicopter clubs so that would inferr that you
want to fly outside. To do this with any great chance of success I would
suggest you get yourself an IC (glow) powered heli eg a Raptor 30 but
preferrably a Raptor 50 although you are better to buy whatever your chosen
club flies most of. From that follows the purchase of a computer radio,
fuel, tools, starter, battery, a crash kit etc. etc. and believe you me that
will soon gobble up the best part of a grand.

If you just want to putter about in your garden or local park then by all
means buy a little leccy contra-rotor jobby for 150 quid or thereabouts. Be
aware that small electric single rotor helis are very skittish to fly even
when you know the score.

Large 30/50 size electic helis are expensive on motors and batts and can be
really dangerous due to full torque being available as soon as power is
applied (possibly accidentally) with no clutch to slip as is the case on an
IC heli.

Have Fun!

You'll have more fun with some jellies and a bottle of buckfastleigh

Not in the same league as a decent RC heli.
