I've replaced mine a few times...Be careful about ordering online though
with the shafts. The one I received was bent when I got it. I picked one
up at the hobby store for the same price without shipping and told him about
the bent shaft I received. He took out a cardboard box from under the
counter with 10 brand new shafts from his last order....all bent (some real
bad).
Anyway, replacing the shaft:
After obviously removing the body (gently pulling out the two pins - The
landing skids are slide outs too..just work them out) You have to take off
the battery holder (4 screws), then take off the retaining clamp holding the
inside shaft. Slide the whole inside shaft assy out the top and set aside.
Slide the upper bearing holder off the Outer shaft. Take the lower blades
off. Take the screws out of the lower Blade holder and slide it up and off
the shaft. Pop the two plastic arms off the Swash plate and slide the swash
plate up and off. You'll now see the clamp for the Outer shaft. Loosen up
the screw and slide the clamp and washer up and off. (Note the small brass
washer and it's orientation!!) You can now slide the outer shaft down and
out through the bottom. Don't forget to remove the bearing from your old
shaft, as the new shaft does not come with one. You'll MAY need to take a
rod (dowel) to slide into the top of your old shaft to pop the bearing out
(or if your careful, you can utilize the inside shaft to gently push it out)
Reverse order to assembly - be careful when you put the swash plate back
on - It has to be adjusted correctly and leveled right....
All in all it sounds more difficult than it is and you'll be able to strip
your bird down in record time in the future without fear...
Good Luck...

thanks, I did have to order the shaft though. (E-Bay) so now I'm a little
worried about that. Everything came off as you said, but I had to use some
force to get the inner shaft out and the lower blade holder off. Now the
waiting until the new shaft and gear arrive.....

More than likely, on the crash/hit that stripped your gears the shaft was
also bent. The extra force you had to use was an indication of that. You
probably had to pull a little harder on the outside shaft to get it down and
out of the heli too. A good way to check for that would be to put the
bearing back in the gear and the bearing holder back on the other end. Put
your inside shaft through both, then hold the inside shaft firm and spin the
outside shaft. If bent, you will see some runout (wobble) somewhere along
the outside shaft as it spins around.
BTW, after you get it back together your first operational test should be
hooking up the battery then slowly power up the lower blades first. Watch
for any wobble in the upper blades while their not moving. If OK, stop the
lowers and spin the uppers and watch for the same. No wobbles your good to
go...If you get any excessive wobbling, remove the blades and check it again
up close. If no runout, try a different set of blades. I've chased down
what I thought was a bent shaft, before I found I had a bad new blade
(happens a bit that you get 1 or 2 unbalanced/bad weighted blades in that
4-pack)
PS: I'm assuming it was a crash and that you were not able to kill the
throttle quickly enough or you were trying to save the bird - Usually the
main reason for gear stripping. The blades usually break first, but if they
don't and you don't kill the power, the gear teeth will go...
Good Luck,
