The 6EX is great value for money, but it does have a couple of
shortcomings: No timer, no sub trim, and only one additional flight
mode (idle-up) being the ones I remember. The fact that it only has 6
channels might also be a showstopper. If you want to adjust both the
gyro and a governor in-flight, you won't have enough channels.

It is also available in 2.4GHz.

The 7C does not have any of the mentioned limitations.

Agreed!  We've got a couple of the 6EX's in 2.4 GHz mode.  They're very good
systems but in the long run are rather limited in programming capabilities
and you'll likely out grow it rather quickly.  The 7C is more capable and
probably a better value in the long run.

I know that finances are often a limitation for beginners and you'll have to
deal with that but I would recommend, if you can, get the best radio you can
afford.  Buying the cheapest system available now, only to wind up in a
situation where you need to upgrade that radio 6 months from now, doesn't
really save you anything.  Just a though!

Good luck & Fly Safe,
