I am really good with a mCX. I figure with the heading lock gyro on the
400 it would not be that huge of a jump. Opinions???

I think you will find the jump from a counter-rotating heli to a tail
rotor heli to be a bit more than you expect.  The fact that the mCX is
extremely stable is a factor.  I don't believe you will find the 400 to
be nearly that stable; you will have to fly the 400 all the time instead
of loafing and only adding control input when you want it to do
something different than what it is doing at the time.  And, of course,
3D is a whole other world of heli flying which you haven't even had
access to with the mCX.

Other opinions?

I reckon you're right. The OP is dreaming if he thinks he's going to fly the
400 with any real amount of control. And Heading Hold gyro's don't even
BEGIN to help for circuit work unless the circuits are flown backwards.

HH gyro's are actually a pain in the arse unless all you're doing is
hovering and backwards/sideways flying.

be prepared to crash and burn would be my opinion, I can fly circuits
with a MCx and a CX2 and it does next to nothing to prepare you for a
400 t-rex or similar, its a bit like saying you can ride a bike with the
little stabiliser wheels on and then you have to relearn when you take
them off
granted it does help with the basic flying skills but that's all a 400
will bite you a darn site quicker than a mcx ever will, you have a lot
more time to think with a mcx before it hits something
