Hi Davo,
A few questions:
1. Is it developing good rotor rpm?
2. Is it holding that rpm or are things slowing down?
3. If it is developing good rpm and holding it, what kind of collective
pitch movement are you getting?
You mention doing some troubleshooting. Is there anything you've absolutely
eliminated as a problem? If it's not holding rpm, that could be anything
from a bad battery, bad motor, or bad ESC. Then again, it could just be a
poor flight control setup. I wasn't exactly sure what the Night Ranger 3D
was so I looked it up. They call it a "ready to fly" model but
unfortunately, that's not always a given.
Any extra info you can provide will help a lot with suggestions!
Good luck & Fly Safe,

it does hold good rpm, until the collective starts adding in pitch, onc
it does that it considerably lowers.
i think it is possibly the battery but am not sure as i had to get a ne
charger when i first got it, so not sure???
im no expert so i cant tell you much more steve.
i really appreciate the help,

That sounds like it might be electrical in nature. A battery, ESC, or motor
going bad would all produce the symptoms you mention. Something else that
comes to mind is, how is the ESC programmed? Is it set to follow throttle
curves from the transmitter or is it set in governor mode? If it's the
first, then I'd look at the throttle curves in the transmitter. If the
second, then I'd suspect the models electrics.
One things for sure, it shouldn't have any problems at all maintaining rotor
speed while simply lifting off in a hover.
Good luck,
Steve R.
