Kalt whisper will not leave the ground

I had an Hirobo shuttle few years ago that I managed to fly a little,
but got out of the hobbie due to other interests. I have just recently
acquired an old Kalt whisper that refuses to leave the ground. I have
a new set of batteries ( 9.6v 8cell 1700mah) but the tail refuses to
stop turning counter clockwise when I give it full pitch. I have
adjusted the blades for balance and angle but still no luck
I am not sure if the motor is turning fast enough.
Any advise please

Is the gyro "sensing" the correct way?

Set the rudder on your Tx to 50% and try again.
Succes,

i also have a kalt whisper and have never been able to get it off the
ground.  it looks like the little train that could... only, it couldn't
(lift off the ground, that is).
i brought it in to the LHS and when they checked it over.  everything
looked fine except the motor.  he said that the earlier kalt whispers
were shipped with weaker motors.  he recommended upgrading the motor.
i trust him and have no reason to believe he was ripping me off.
anyway, i opted not to buy the new motor because i knew it would be
hard trying to find replacement parts if (ie, when) i crash.
hope that helps

Ok, follow this:---

With the Tx and Rx turned on, the tail rotor servo should position the tail
rotor pitch slider roughly halfway along the tail rotor output shaft, with
the servo arm itself "central". Check that first.

Now check that there's some pitch already on the blades when the Tx stick
(and trim) is in the centre. Look for around 8 degrees or better (it's and
electric heli remember)

Now move the tail rotor control stick to the RIGHT and watch the tail
blades. This action SHOULD add pitch and NOT take pitch off. If it adds
pitch, go to answer  3:-), if it takes pitch OFF, reverse the servo action
in the Tx.

(3:-)) If it added pitch like it should, check which way the servo ARM
moved, coz that's what you're going to be looking at next.

Now.. take hold of the complete heli (by it's head) and lift it off the
bench with one hand hand and move the boom, turning the heli to IT'S left.
(That's anti-clockwise for those who never got their own heads arounf "left"
and "right":-)

Watch the tail rotor servo when you do this, because you need to see that
when YOU move the heli's nose left, the gyro tries to move it back again,
and in order to do this, it has to add RIGHT tail rotor while the heli is
moving. If you're looking at the servo arm and it moves the same way id did
when YOU put in a right tail rotor command, then the gyro is sensing and
correcting properly.

If the servo DOESN'T move the correct way, the GYRO needs reversing and this
is done AT THE GYRO and NOT at the transmitter. Either mount the gyro upside
doqn, or find the reversing switch and flip it.

That's sorted through the tail, so now if the heli still tries to rotate on
take off AND it's actually got to the point where it IS taking off, then
your main rotor pitch is a f.cking mile out. Too much main rotor pitch and
the heli will rotate to it's letft (anti-clock) and too little main rotor
pitch will see the heli wanting to rotate to it's right (clock-wise).

Adjust to suit.

Fly

Crash.

Repair.

Sell on eBay:-)

Hi Beav,
The Gyro was working backwards. No reverse switch but Turned the unit on its head.
Managed to get it of the ground now getting better by each charge of the batteries.
Thanks for the help!
All I need now is spares for when I do inevitably crash the thing.

Got a CSM 180 or 200 then :-)

A result then, just what was needed.

I'll have a look in my "box" and see what I've got. I'm sure I've still got
a few Whisper bits and pieces knocking about. E-mail me to remind me to do
that, coz I say these things and then forget :-)
