friend asked me to look at his rc car. it looks like a sand
rail with a royal 21 gas engine with chain drive. not sure
who the manufacturer is. looks like it starts with a "starter
box" (has a serated metal ring on the bottom around the clutch.
not sure if it is worth putting any $$ into it. Is there any
way to start with out the starter box? perhaps a drill with
some sort of rubber ring, please email me at kxa@verizon.net
if you have any ideas thanks!!

The cheap 'n' dirty way is to turn a bicycle upside-down, in a high
gear; get a mate to turn the pedals until the back wheel is spinning
pretty fast; then lower the car so that the flywheel touches the
bike's tyre (careful to get it spinning the right way!)
I've helped do this, and it does work although it can become hard work
if it doesn't start on the first couple of tries.
HTH!

Funny on my Duratrax Nitro Quake I have started the engine in reverse
when it preignited and backfired when I pulled on the starter
cord...kinda funny it ran really bad...hehe quickly stalled though.

I used this method many years ago on an old Mardave Car, electric drill with
Meccano axle and two wheels fitted, worked well for me but best bet is buy a
starter similar to that used for R/C planes, you can get various attachments
to suit what u are looking for. You will need a 12v battery as well but
still cheaper than a good electric drill.
Or just swap the engine for one with a Pull Start.
