Hi all,

I am sure this has been covered a billion times, but thought I would
throw it at this group.

I am looking into getting a 4x4 truck rc Nitro based kit.  I don't
know a thing about RC cars but have built 15+ kit planes, ranging from
small 25 sized planes to 90 sized 4 stroke planes.

I am looking for a nice 4x4 truck kit that I can take my time
building.  Was thinking bigger engine is better maybe 1/8 scale with
25 sized engine?  Who is making a rugged truck out there?  Also what
engine brand should I look at?  I.e.  OS and Saito are nice for plane
engines, but what about trucks?  Any direction or helpful links would
be a plus.

I will only be using it for backyard playtime, no racing or events of
any kind.

Was looking at hobbypeople and towerhobbies.  Anybody else sell online
I should be looking at?

Many thanks!

If you want a kit, the HPI Savage SS is your only choice. But it's a
great choice. It comes with a .25 engine.

As Rick said, your only choice in trucks is the Savage SS, but it is an
excellent truck. The .25 engine it comes with is pretty good, but from
memory, the kit version of the engine has the pull start not the roto start.
If this is your first nitro car I recommend you look into this and check. If
its not part of the kit I would buy the engine roto start unit. It will make
starting a lot easier. As someone said, 10 seconds of electric start equals
a heck of a lot of cord pulling.

Other than that you can't go wrong with the Savage kit.

Your only other kit options are the 1/8th scale buggies. There are a number
of kits available. The Kyosho Inferno and Mugen MBX5 have excellent reps.
