Hi all;

From what i see this might be a bit of a rookie question for this group.

Years ago ( 1992 ) I bought a Nikko R/C truck from Toys R US. It uses a 6
band fuse and a 7.2 V long battery.

Well the years have past and the truck still runs great ( i haven't used it
in about 5-6 years ).  My kid is now oggling it and we fired it up and zoom
off it went, my son's eyes glazed over at this beast.  I belive it is 1/10
scale it is a Midnight Crusher ( if that means anything ).

What i'm looking for is some information on cleaning, oiling the truck as it
is pretty dusty and it could use a good oiling.  Also if anyone knows where
I can score an online manual or anything like that both my son and I would
be appreciative.

I would like to keep using this R/C for a bit to see if my son is interested
in R/C in any fashion to take him to a new R/C, but to maximise the truck it
needs a little work.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Cheers,

Gary and Nate.

generally speaking you wouldn't oil anything. Just run it.

If you can get at the motor without too much fuss, you might remove it
and use an electric motor spray on it, spraying it directly into the
motor until it runs clear.

What you have isn't meant to be serviced or maintained by the end user.

That's the difference between a Nikko-like, Radio Shack ( not including
xmods cars) product and a "hobby level" RC vehicle.

Oh I agree, and I wasn't thinking that this was a hobbiest level R/C by any
stretch.

Just looking for a little advice which i seem to have gotten ... Thanks.

Any suggestions for an entry level hobbiest R/C truck...trucks seem to be a
big hit here...my son lovest Monster Trucks etc.

Cheers and thanks.

Is price an issue, if so what's your budget? How old is the kid?

My son is only 5, but he loves this kinda stuff, and well.....so do I :)

I'm looking for somthing solid that will go the distance...not the best but
not sh.t either.

I'm not sure what the hobbiest stuff runs so...i'll take your suggestions.

Cheers,

Gary

If you want electric.. I would go with a Traxass Stampede or EMaxx... Both
strong rebuilable and loads of fun for the beginner.. Plus the customer
support is first class and the groups on thier website offer a wealth of
advice and support. I have owned a lot of RC cars..including some
associateds and losi's. I love my traxass vehicles the most because of
durability and the fun Factor. My newest one is the Tmaxx 2.5 and all I have
to say is awesome!

I completely agree with the T-Maxx statement... They go for about $400 US
for the RTR truck.  By the time you get the AA batteries, charger, 7.2V
stick pack for the EZ-Start and the Fuel, you're probably looking around
$500!  I also have an electric Stampede (the wife's... LOL).  If you're
looking at the 'Pede, go for the one with the ESC (Elec. Speed Control).
That one runs around $160 (from Tower Hobbies) plus the batteries and
charger... Great truck for a beginner though!!!!
