Put some new pink Jaco foams, the 30mm, on one of our electric TC3's
today and raced. Had a total of about 20 runs today. The tires are
totally chunked and almost unusable.
Is this normal?
There were some other guys running Ennetti foams, 40 shore, and their
tires look good as new.
What gives?

IME, foams chunk if they're not properly glued down at the outside
edge.
I make a point of inspecting my foam tyres after every meeting (4-6
runs): I work round the outside edge of each wheel, gently trying to
lift the edge of the tyre up, and if any gaps appear I squeeze a small
amount of Evostik Impact into them, and allow to dry/cure thoroughly.
Using this technique, most of my foams have worn down to about 2mm /
0.1" thick before suffering any serious chunking (although I'm talking
4WD buggy and 190 mm Pro-10, not touring car).

My limited use of foams on asphalt/cement on touring cars, leads
me to say that 20 runs might be normal. The racing surface, temp,
car set-up, and amount of stones on the track all come into play here.
Any small tear or loose point in the gluing will go first. A small tear
becomes a big chunks in no time.
The shore number may have some impact, softer = more chunks.
Look at the wear patterns, they may give you some clue as to the
cause of the chunking.
Hope this helps.
