Savage - should I buy an SS or a 25RTR?

Me and my two boys race regularly with TC3's on road, T4's and B4's for
off road at our club track. We've been racing electric for about two
years now. We've built many of the vehicles, and when racing we lug
around a "mini-RC" workshop.

We've decided to give nitro a whirl and we've decided to go with a
Savage. We'll mainly be bashing with it and racing infrequently.

I thought a monster truck would be a great first nitro vehicle because
we could run it just about anywhere, and it would also allow us to run
way into cold weather season.

I've been reading websites and other literature and I'm hard pressed to
understand if there's any difference between the SS and the 25RTR,
besides the obvious radio included with the RTR.

Is there any difference between the two trucks if you buy them new in
the box right now at a local hobby shop?

We have a Airtronics M3 radio and an extra Novak XXL I can use for the
SS.

Which should I buy?

Check whether the SS comes with the roto start.

The Savage SS has a few upgraded parts compared to the 25. I have the 25 and I
love it. They have the same motor with the roto start system. My only caution
is to let you know that you will probably have to replace the one way bearing
in the start system after a month or 2. This is not savage specific...its
common with most one-way bearings. I have not had a problem since then. The
best thing to do with a savage is install a dual disc brake system, steel
spur/clutch, and a rollcage. I bought my cage brand new from ebay for $39 and
they sell on there alot. I have pics if you would like. Any info needed feel

Sorry to contradict you here, but my Tower catalogue states that the SS
doesn't include the roto start.

Which may be a good or bad thing, depending on your preference, but it is
one of the few differences.

I was just checking the differences.

As far as starting......can you use a starter box on a SS or a 25?

I had a Savage 21 for some six months or so, and there wasn't hardly a day
when I didn't wish I had the roto start. And then when I got smug after
reading about some people having trouble with the roto, my string broke.

So if you decide to go for the SS (and I would go this way if I were buying
another Savvy, which I'm not) then I would definitely spring for the roto
...

Have you checked the HPI site?
Here at the bottom of this page it lists the differences.

Ken,
I haven't decided yet, but I may put my Savage 25 up on ebay. I've been
upgrading my 2002 Grand Prix GTP....gets expensive but I'm up to 310 HP now
:O)
