RC10 B4 Pinion Size

Hi People,

I'm doing an engine swap on an RC10B4. It has the standard spur gear. The
new engine is as follows:

Fantom
24 deg stock
Rpm 19,458 @ 5.0v
Power 58w @ 10.0k
Torque 962 gm/cm

Basically I am wondering which pinion to fit. The manual says to use 22t or
24t depending on whether the motor is set up for rpm or for torque. I don't
know whether the above motor is set up for rpm or torque, so I don't know
which pinion to use.

Any tips?
Thanks,
Mike

Do you want top speed or punch and runtime?

22 to 24 seems pretty high to me, most of us at our local track are running
around 19 or 20 teeth in stock class.  Although that is a indoor racecourse.

The pinion that will be optimal for you really depends on the car's environment,
not the motor's characteristics so much.

always start with the smaller.

You can always go up.
That's cheaper/easier than cooking a motor.
If you are using good batteries, it's very possible to
have so much run time that you can fry it without knowing it.

If you were using a cheapo motor before, you may want to
start out with a 20.
