What truck do you recomend in this class. It won't be used for racing.

Revo, T-Maxx, or Monster GT

I'm prejudiced.  :-)

Really I'm not impressed with the savage because of it's overly exposed
fuel tank.  (I know the T-Maxx isn't MUCH better but at least it has
SOME form of chassis plate under it.)  Also, it's a gas guzzler, which
is why I put the GT 3rd.  Finally, I've never try to break the chassis
down, but the other trucks look much more modular.  Can you get the
tranny out of the savage without completely disassembling it?

It's not a Pinto, so firey crashes aren't an issue. Why not have a fuel
tank "exposed"?

I don't think so. We just bought a Savage 25 and put a gallon of fuel
thru it this past week. We m ostly bash with it here in the city, but
do plan on racing it at our track. I went with the Savage because of
it's durability, ease of getting parts, and ease of finding hopups.

It's our first Nitro vehicle. We're loving it.

Most fuel tank breakage I've seen was the result of wrecking and
inertia cracking/breaking the tank.  I haven't seen one break from
getting hit by something else.

Monster trucks are designed to crash.  They're the ultimate bashers. So
that makes how many broken fuel tanks per savage?

You can't even get the Rx battery pack out of a Sav without removing a shock
mounting bolt :-(

I changed two packs this weekend and didn't have to do that. All I do is
take the cover off.

I have a 25 not the 21.

Ok, you must have some knack that I never figured, I could never get the
front of the cover back on without removing the shock mounting bolt on my
old .21.

Just grab the top of the shock tower with your thumb and the bumper with
your fingers (of your non dominant hand) and squeeze them together while
pushing the front end down and rolling your hand forward, back wheels will
come slightly off of the surface it is on.  The shock tower should move
forward and eezz peezzee, boom, she's in! Takes some planning when stuffing
the wires and connectors into the compartment but I can do this in less than
2 minutes. I have a fail-safe and a recharge receptacle channelled out of
the containment box with small notches too.  The first time I did this,
though, thought I would go wild too !;-)

I forgot the electric option.  The E-maxx is a killer platform.  If it's
out of your price range, then the Stampede will fit the bill nicely.
Even though I recommended against the nitro stampede, the E-Stampede
will not overpower it's 2wd, and can use standard 1/10 scale electronics
and motors.

Really cant go wrong with any "new" MT. Revo, Savage, LST, MGT, Mammoth,
Ofna trucks. Find out what your lhs stocks go for it. Might stay away
from that Genesis though.

I'd drive the *Maxx, Savage and Revo at least and see what you like.

I have not been in this hobby for long (3 months) and I would strongly
suggest a truck that your local hobby shop carries the most parts for. The
hobby shop will be a place to make good and long lasting friendships with as
they can make or break the whole experience too.    I have just received a
new engine for my truck after a two week period of not being able to run it.
(I chose to wait for the new big block .28 Wasp engine to come in)
I have a very, very good hobby shop in my area and the staff are
exceptional.  Let me tell you no matter what truck you get, if you can't get
a part in a hurry it is hell!
And you will need parts!
No matter what truck you get!!!!!!!!!
