My friend just purchased an HPI gas car, so I inherited his old Kyosho
USA1 truck. I want the best motors, gears, etc. available for the best
speed. What would I need to do? Thanx

My opinion is to trade it for an 1/8 scale gas buggy, or at least an
electric stadium truck. The USA1 is a crawler through and through.
Trying to set it up for speed will give you a wheely monster that
doesn't corner for crap.

Thanx for the replies. I just want to work with what I have. I'm
getting it from a friend and I want to upgrade to the best motors I can
get. This will only be used on the street. I'm not really worried about
the cornering because it has 4-wheel steering. I just want to make it
as fast as possible. This is just something to do on the weekends when
I'm not driving my 18-wheeler. Thanks again.

Increasing horsepower on a stock USA 1 will make it a "twisted drive-shaft"
factory and not much more. While some of us think back dreamily on our old
trucks, the USA-1 was never very sturday out of the box. There are plenty
of people that can tell you about the time they twisted a drive shaft with
the stock motors after not to many runs. You need to beef up the
drive-train before even looking at new motors. It will be a chore finding
parts for that thing but they are out there.
If it was mine I would check out what USA1 parts go for on eBay. In many
cases the older models are worth a lot more when sold piece by piece then as
a whole vehicle.
If it's not a stock truck then let us know what has been done to it. We can
throw names of high-dollar motors and killer brushless seups at you but they
won't do you any good unless your vehicle can handle it.
Sassy Chassis used to make a lot of the hop-up parts for the USA1, but they
are out of business. Below is the link to the people that bought them out.
Maybe they can help with parts. They list the stronger drive shafts at just
under $100.
