Help with keeping motor intact...

My buddy has a old Traxxas rc car that uses the stinger motor. The
problem is the screw holes on the motor are stripped. So one little
bump and the motor shifts and makes no connection to the spur gear. Ive
tried going with a bigger screw and it only lasts a few minutes. For
now we have wedged paper in there. Any way to fix this short of getting
a new motor? Thanks

Any chance you could through-drill the motor mount holes and use bolts
and lock nuts instead of screws threading into the motor mount flanges?

Im not so clear on what you mean. Use a bolt from inside the motor
coming out the existing hole, then use a lock nut on that? That may
work...

Yeah, I didn't do a very good job of describing what I meant. I'm not
familiar with the Stinger engine, so double trouble.  But, if the engine
mounting system is such that there are flanges which the hold down
screws thread into, then the flanges can be drilled out so that a bolt
can go right through them and a lock nut put on the opposite side.

Internal mount flanges, I guess?  If that's what you've got, yes, it
could work.  Sorry for the vagueness...I should have shut up and let
someone who knows that engine talk.

Hope you find a cure cheaper than replacing the engine!

Have you tried thread lock on the screws? Make sure it dries. Also
maybe use a lock washer at the same time.

Sounds like it's time for a different motor.

Get another motor.

Yes, it has two holes on the bottom of the case if you will that accept
the mounting screws.

Yeah, I think its just better to get t new motor. I may mess with it
though. Thanks to all.

Cant you rotate it a bit and just drill two new holes and use tap screws?

Sorry it took so long for me to notice your post.

If your still having the problem I would be happy to ship you a Stinger
motor if you live in the US.  I pull them as soon as I get a new Traxxas
vehicle.  I threw one in the trash, gave one to a friend for his lathe and
have one sitting on my RC shelf at home because one never knows.

E-mail me direct with your info.  My email is techpriest(at)ourlair.com.
