Duratrax FlashPoint (Infrared temperature gauge)

Good day
I have a Duratrax FlashPoint and a Traxxas Revo Truck.
In the instruction manual of the FlashPoint, a person is able to set the
Emissivity. The manual recommends a value of 77E for Anoidzed
Aluminium (coloured ard engines, may be powder coated) (77%).

In the Traxxas documentation, it states that the temperature should not
exceed 260 degrees F.

What I understand the Emissivity value to do is, to boost the measured
temperature by a certain ratio, to reflect a realistic temperature
reading, due the the heat dissipation characteristics of the material.

This formula correct?
measured value + (measured value X (100 - E value)/100) = adjusted value
measured value X (1+(100-E value)/100) = adjusted value

With this said and done, does the Traxxas documenation mean the measured
value unadjusted (100E) (100% - perfect heat conductor) or the adjusted
value (77E)?

Thanks
BA

On page 30 of the Revo manual it references 270F.  I haven't found a
reference to 260F.

You can easily spike it over 270F in high speed runs, racing, etc, but
if it stays up there for long the engine will likely overheat and stop
running until it cools a bit.  Overheating can also aggravate the
lubrication situation.

It means 270F actual temperature. I haven't used an IR meter so I
can't speak meaningfully on that topic.
